Well traded-in my 04 GMC yesterday for a NNBS 2007 RCSB 2WD Z71. I just got out this morning and swapped in the True-Flow drop in filter into the stock box, same setup I was using on the GMC. Was going to see if the Air Aid Intake Tube would work also, but man there is a maze of baffles on the stock tube. There is a long narrow baffle that runs underneathe the engine cover all the way to the back of the intake manifold and stops. About mid-way back there is a hose line that runs in plugs into a grommet in that baffle. I assume that this is some sort of a vaccum line.

I haven't seen any of the other intake systems for these new trucks. so I didn't know if that was a needed thing or what, so I just left it alone for now, but would really like to get that snaking ass intake tube off the truck, I KNOW that thing is restrictive as hell.

Check out the AEM. I looked at their site and there install instructions show a nice looking product. It is the best looking I have found yet. Air raid may be a good choice also if they have they tube ready.

I really like the AFE, but man I have issues spending that much $$$$ for just an intake. I would go with the true-flow if they were still using the composite tube, I think they are using an aluminum one now. just not sure how that is for heat disappation.

the volant has a ram air effect without any tubes. the hole in the front of the box fits perfect between the headlight bucket and the rad support. just cut a hole in the flap between the two and it takes its air through the grille.

Tom, any idea if Air Aid is going to be selling just the MIT like they do for the other models soon?

Why do you think the stock tube is restrictive? Because it has extra chambers?

I believe that GM uses the chambers to reduce intake noise and to boost power. Read up on Helmholtz chambers and you'll understand what I'm talking about. Outlaw used a similar chamber in their intake. (I have one) They employed it because it compensated for a weak spot in the engine's RPM band - similar to the stock intake tube. (I don't know at what RPM though) But a guy at Outlaw said that they elliminated the chamber when GM switched to electric fans because the chamber stuck out more plus customers thought it was for sound only. That's a shame.

Anyway, the chambers don't hurt performance - in fact, they help - but I agree with you on this;
They sure take up a lot of space and get in the way sometimes. Especially the stock intakes.

I don't care about noise but I DO care about performance. If an intake tube chamber helps increase power (I think Volant has one too) then I'm definitely in favor of it.

Hope this helps.

I just sold one of the aems to a customer with a gmc vortecmax and he can't stop raving. Along with his tune and exhaust he said he walks away from the new tundras like they're standing still, quite the improvement considering he was right next to them stock for stock (denver altitude sucks on stock gm tuning).

That tube that is in baffle is a crank case vent. All those tubes are noise control. Shouldn't be all that restictive.

2wd Z71??
Yep, they've offered it for a few years now in some trucks...it's really only a small package: shocks, skid plates, and decals pretty much.

Yeah, I think this is the first year though that actually put the Z71 decals on though. I've considered taking the decals off, but then I'd have to endure hearing everyone telling me to drop the damn truck.

Then Enter, GM PART # 17800809

That is what I am thinking about getting... My truck is just a daily driver, and I want to avoid any potential warranty issues with an oiled filter..

I was wanting to do headers as well, but I have the GM remote start package. According to the manual, if the emission system is not functioning properly, the remote start won't work... I would like headers, but I might just have to stick with a catback.. I have not had anytime to mess with my truck since I purchased it though... I will look more into it, once I have some more free time.

I just installed new K & N. Sounds awesome, I can already notice more of a response through the entire power band. But I know there is still more to be gained. I need to give her a tune.

How do I tune this? I understand I need a program and probably a chip right.
