Hello Chevy Fans


I have 2002 chevy silverado ext cab 5300 auto and i getting ready to lower it 2 inches in the front (using springs) and 4 inches in back (using shackle and hanger kit) and i spoke to someone at tire discounter about a set of 20 KMC wheels and size of tires that i want. The saleman ask me what size of tires i said i wanted P285/50r20 all the way around and the salesman told me that will not fit in the front but the rear of the truck would find and then he suggested some size that was bullshit that i didnt even want, so what i want to know is will this P285/50r20 fit in my truck when its lowered???

it also depends on the offset of your wheel. What is the offset?

I don't think it is so much the problem with rubbing on turns it is the wheel
travel going up and down I have had 285 50 20 before with the truck being
at the stock height but I use to cut the tire on the left side with the fender
when I hit dip in the road or a speed bump, had no problem on the right side
but all chevys have the chevy lean to the left side my truck is also a 02, the
tire itself is a pretty wide I don't think you will get it to work with the truck
being lowered if you don't rub the sway bar on turns pretty sure the fender
will sit right on top of the tire giving you almost no wheel travel also my offset
on the rim was high I don't remember what the offset was but the tire would
rub the sway bar lightly I mean right on the edge on turns and the tire would
still stick out pass the fender when the wheels were straight got tired of cutting
the tire it would not cut it deep just over time it would make it way thru the tire
causing it to blow out got tired off replacing tire's so I lifted the truck.

they won't fit unless you have like 6" of backspacing on an 8" rim.

I had 8.5." rims with 5.5" of backspacing and I tore the crap outta my 285/50/20's with a 2/4 drop. I ran 275/45/20's in the front and 285/50/20's in the back and I had absolutely no issues.

They will fit if you have anywhere from 5" or so backspace on a 8" rim. I'm running that combo now with a 2/4 drop. But, as said before it will rub slightly on drivers side sway bar and fender well. I got a few cuts in my tire too. Might want to try a little lower profile to be safe then tweak the drop a little. Go with RandomHero's suggestion.
