Default Tuning an '04 Truck w/ HP Tuners. Door Chiming???

I just started tuning on an '04 Silverado 5.3L and I keep getting a random door chime, just like when your door is open and you turn the key to the on position. It chimes a few times and then begins spazzing out.

Step 4, preparing VCM fails at this same time.

Has anyone had any problem with Step 4, failing to prepare VCM? I finally got it to go thru, but it just took a few times.

I have tune a few '04s and nothing like that. I just finished tuning a 2003 yesterday, and when i read it the radio and all lights turned off to read it. I though that was weird, but everything still worked out good. I'll let you know if i ever hear of anything like that.

Close to the same problem on my '04 Avalanche. I could not use high speed communications at all and would have multiple re-tries on low speed.

Try pulling the radio fuse when reading or writing to the VCM.
(I didn't trust my logs either. They were,,,,, inconsistent.)

I replaced the factory radio. Much happier now. (Logging a long trip with no radio can be,,,,, unpleasant.)

When pulling the radio fuse you shouldn't lose the radio presets. You will have to reset the clock.

Edit: I almost forgot to mention, I got the door chime module with the after market HU and when I left it on during a write I heard static, clicks, and chimes through the chime module. I only did that once to see if it interfered with the write.

If you have any after market stereo equipment remove the Radio and Radio Amp fuse from the under hood fuse center and try it again.

I have an aftermarket HU also, and i have the harness with the door chime in it, and when i rewrite i get static noise, it freaked me out the first time. Good to know that happens to other people.

Thanks for the help fellas. We ended up pulling some of the fuses for the On-Star??? Whatever it was, it worked great. PM MaBulter for details on which fuses incase you are also having similar problems!

Thanks again.

What can happen with onstar and some after market head units is they from time to time will send an inquiry to the pcm to check for code status or for speed for speed based volume control and it really pisses off the reading and writing processes of the programmer. That's why they recommend you pull those fuses when preforming reads or writes

Yeah, it was taking over a minute and a half to write a calibration when I got lucky and it would work on that 3rd to 4th try. Normally it only takes about 26 seconds.

Thanks for the tune Kyle. It seems to be running pretty strong so far.

I have both the Bose system as well as Steering wheel controls and the data display on mine.

The fuses we pulled out were the radio(15), radio amp(30), and info(15). Pulling just the radio fuses might work also, but pulling all three doesn't hurt. The info shut down the door chime, but the display seemed to still work.
