Default Front Tinted Windows in CA

How many of you guys have been pulled over and given fix-it tickets for having your front windows tinted?

I debating on getting it done but not if it's just going to be another reason to pull me over. I've gotten nailed for mudflaps 4 times already!!

welll if you have other reasons to be stopped for it will happen more frequently , since tint is the only thing i have that could get me pulle dover it doesent happen very often , i also dont have them very dark at all they match the factory tint. i only got pulled over once for it back in the day with my tahoe and the reason he stopped me was because he heard my radio before he saw me. ive been pulled over a fe wtimes in the ss with tint and ive never had them say anything.

I have my front tinted windows tinted and my windshield as well. 20% on the front windows and 35% on my windshield. All ym windows including the windshield look pretty dark.

I have only gotten one ticket in the last 4 years. It depends how you drive and where you drive. In San Francsico, cops have bigger things to do than pull people over for window tint.

Well i'm right out side of LA, so i know they definitley have better things to do, but they do it anyway. In my BMW i've gotten pulled over twice for the tint and just paid the ticket each time instead of fixing it. One was on the way to Vegas the other on the way to Mammoth.

I want to get the tint on the truck before summer, especially when i'm driving through the dessert on the way to Havasu towing my boat. But again, i don't want to go through being hasseled about it. I know cops target SUVs and trucks more because they're bigger and are easier to see. I have 4 cousins and a brother who are cops and they tell me this crap all the time. They also have tint on everything they own, but professional courtesy goes a very long way.

I've had about 8 tickets for window tint. A couple of times I traded plates on mine & and a buddies truck and had them written off. I've forged officer signatures on the backs of tickets before turning them in. Hell, I even told an officer that I was going to put the tint back on darker after I cleared a ticket. Not that I recommend doing this just to have tint, but I can't stand driving in a fish bowl. I have 5% over the factory tint on my rear doors & rear window, & 5% on the front doors on my current truck with no hassles yet. I've found that it's only the Highway Patrol that will enforce this, so be cool around them.

5% on the back and 15% on the front and havne't been pulled over yet in LA. My experience is they need another reason to pull you over, they don't want to write a ticket just for tint. Even when I get pulled over for something else they still don't bother me about the tint. Only time I got ticketed was on my way to mammoth and at the time my front's were 25% only. The guy that tinted my window's pulled off the tint, so I could clear the ticket and put on the darker tint for free. Awesome shop, awesome work, and awesome guy. Also if you have family that are cops ask them for a car sticker. I don't know what they are called though.

I got the licsence plate and the sticker, but i still get **** for mud flaps.

Where did you go in LA to get your work done? I'm in Thousand Oaks, but i'd make the trip for a reputable shop. Do you know how much the charge off hand? PM if necessary. Thanks

Wow, never knew mud flaps were an issue! The tinting shop is pretty close to you actually, they are on Canoga and Victoy in the valley. They are called Tint Master and their address is...
6947 Canoga Ave. 91303
(818) 992-8853
It's just two guys and they've both been doing it for about 20 years and that's all they do. When I was shopping around I found a guy who did windows as well as tranny changes, as you wait.
Tint master charged me $140.00 for all 5 windows of my Crew Cab, best I could find and I've never had any problems with the windows, if your not happy with it they will redo it for u.
What's the deal on mudflaps??

Awesome... thanks Spoolin. I'll give them a call a little later for a quote on just the 2 front windows. I'll probably be taking a trip over there this weekend.

The law on mudflaps is you need them if part of your tire sticks out the side of the fender well (obviously subjective to the cop) or if you're high enough to the point where the lowest part of body is higher than the center cap of the rear tire. Nerf bars can make it look lower.

Another BS law is "if any part of your body is lower than the bottom part of any wheel/rim, then it's not street legal" Low profile tires take care of that, but that's how they get "slammed" cars/trucks for probable cause.

I've never gotten a ticket for mud flaps, but they always use it as probable cause to pull me over.
