Default Biggest Tranny Cooler w/Radix?

I'm days away from installing my Radix and i'm looking into getting a larger transmission cooler. Do you guys know what is the largest transmission cooler i can mount in stock tranny cooler location behind the Radix intercooler? I wanted to get the Tru-Cool 40,000 GVW, but when i searched some members said the Tru-cool is too large to fit behind the intercooler.

I want to keep the aftermarket tranny cooler in the stock location (obviously i'm pulling out the stock one). And i still want to be able to mount the Radix intercooler infront of it. Anybody have the Tru-Cool 40K GVW w/Radix? I was also thinking the B&M SuperCooler 29K GVW. TIA

Default It Fits

I have the Tru-Cool 40K. I had to mount it upside down to get the connections to fit. Also had to slide the power steering fluid cooler over just a hair. The brackets that come with the cooler can be bent anyway you need them. It's not a direct bolt on but if you have about an hour and are a little creative, it will fit.

Awesome!! Thanks bro. May i ask why did you have to flip it upside down? i mean, in what regard was it not fitting?

Also, did you paint your intercooler black? That first pic threw me off for a second. LOL. Did you see a significant decrease in transmission temps? I'm also thinking of a deeper pan w/drain plug when i do my first OCI

Where the hoses connect on the bottom would not fit. I couldn't get the cooler high enough because of the hood latch. I could have gotten the hoses on but they would have had a pretty good bend in them and I was worried about fluid flow. On my first picture, the hose on the left is not routed that way. I moved it over for the pic. It actaully runs right across the tranny cooler so it has a nice smooth curve, again to keep the fluid moving.

I also had to bend the Radix heat exchanger bracket (the one on top just to the right of the hood latch) just a little to get it to fit over the tranny cooler and still hold the heat exchanger. No biggie, took 5 seconds.

I didn't paint the heat exchanger black. Either it came like that or the previous owner painted it. I was told it was the upgraded heat exchanger but I don't know for sure.
I saw a 40* difference over the stock cooler

Also, I was told by Chuck at FLT to lose my deep tranny pan. It puts the filter to high in the pan and I guess that can cause issues. I went back to a stock pan with a magnet and drain plug.

Looks like that's the setup i'm going to be running with then. Those pictures really helped out. Thanks again.

You definitley have the upgraded intercooler just judging by the shear size, the 1st version was smaller. The newer versions are the same size but come polished. I was on the phone earlier today with Vince at FLT talking about servos and what not. What you said about the deep pan makes sense, i wonder how they feel about the deep filters specific for the pans. I'll give him a shout tomorrow and let you know what i find out.

One more question... Do you have the one with external bypass or no? I'm in southern california, but use the truck to drive up to the mountains in the winter. I don't think i "need" it, but wondering if its worth having.

I've never heard of such a thing. The filter is at the same location with either pan regardless of pan depth.

I just talk to Chuck at FLT and he said that the deep pan is fine as long as you make sure that your filter sits in the correct position. I guess some aftermarket deep pans mess with the filter location by adding extensions. And some applications, not sure which ones, require that the filter sit closer/deeper to the pan.

I dont have the bypass. If I understand its purpose correctly it is designed to stop fluid flow through the cooler unitl the tranny fluid heats up. I rarely see anything below 30* and, being from FL, if it's 30-40* outside...I start the truck and turn on the heater 10 minutes before I go outside. With the Long Tube headers/Exhaust running right down the side of the tranny pan it gets the fluid warm enough before I start moving.

I doubt you'd need the bypass but if you're gonna spend days in the mountains and leave the truck outside overnight, maybe it's a good idea.
