I already posted this on Ls1truck.com but got an answer I didnt agree with. I have a chance to get a 1990 Chevy 6.2 diesel 4x4 ECSB for $500, not $5000 but $500, the only problem is the engine is dead in it. The only response I got on LS1tech was that since the engine is dead everything else in the drivetrain is probably worn out, so he said Id need "new front transfer case, new transmission, and a new engine, which I dont think is the case. Anyone have any opinions on this, I also plan to convert it to a gasser if I get it, what would I need to get to make it a gasser, Im looking at a 350 or perhaps an LS based engine like an Ls1, or ls2 etc. Thanks

As far as converting it to gas, clean the tank, swap fuel pump, I'd put new fuel lie too. Drop the gas motor in it and your good as long as you are planing on doing a swap. You'll be able to tap in to the existing harness for the things you will need such as ignition.

The tranny should be able to bolt up with an adaption kit. Any idea of what trans is in it?

Im not 100% certain but Id guess its the 4L60/TH700R4

That's no too many miles. It should be a 700r4 and should bolt up to a gas motor without any problems. If the truck "looks" in good shape then the rest of the running gears is most likely in good shape too. Those diesels were not very good motors to start with. Honestly $500 bucks is about all it worth with a dead motor, if it ran good, maybe $12-1500 if its in "ok" shape, $2k if it was really nice. It would be a bit of work, but if you have the time and the means, I would do it.
