New tranny.....when to change fluid?
#4
I've been through 2 tranny's in a Ram 1500 and my cousin just went through one as well in his silverado . I was always told, unless your towing, doing some serious racing, fluid gets low, or it turns dark to leave it alone. Don't mess with it. As long as it's red and clean it's fine. Also. there's no break in period on a tranny. if anything take it easy for about 250 miles just to make sure everything is working ok.

There's nothing to really "break-in" on an auto trans. The main property of the transmission fluid that periodic changes are meant to refresh is the detergent in it. Sediments and particles either settle or are filtered, so changing it this soon is more a matter of inspection than preventative maintenance. If you do it now you can catch early problems like metal in the pan, discolored fluid, etc. You've got one built by FLT and that makes it unlikely that you'll find a problem.

Since FLT dynos thier transmissions they have most likely found any possible problems before you even get it, hell that's why they do it. I agree with if it's working good just leave it be. It seems that often times a fluid change leads to the early death of a transmission.
