Default 7.5" rearend. is it worth putting a posi in or any suggestions

hey guys i have been reading some stuff on 7.5" 10-bolt rearends and im not to happy with what i have been reading.

i was planning on an Auburn Posi, T/A diff cover, welded torque tubes, and some lakewood u-joints to toughen it up. but im gonna be running some MT streets soon and when i hook pretty good i dont wanna have to keep replacing carrier units...

do you guys think with hose mods it will do fine with 400ft.lbs and regular track use?

or what should i go with? anyone got a spare 12-bolt laying around?

an 8.5 from a zr2 isn't an option for you? i ran a bone stock 7.5 in my olds with a 6.0 and my other olds as well with a 455 big block without issues, but i didn't have any traction either.

where you running DR's- it is an option but if im gonna upgrade why not really UPGRADE- truck is gonna be getting tuning, DR's, stall, Drag shocks, meth, and cam and will see alot of track time in the future so i want something reliable and i want to cut some 1.7 60ft.s gonna be hard but i think she can do it

My last 60ft was a 1.73. Not too hard at all...anyway go for a 12 bolt. Full spool, 3.73-4.10s, 28-30" rear tire.

I have an auburn unit in my S-10 truck. It has a 406 sbc and I run 3.73s and slicks... 28x10.5...... where people break the 7.5s is when they try to run a steep gear like a 4.56, they have extremely small diameter pinions... but I havent broken mine yet, and it sees lots of track time!!!

I had a '97 s10 4.3L 5spd with 100 shot n2o and a 7.625 (factory) rear with 4.11 gears, a Powertrax No-Slip Traction System locker and 275/60/15 tires; before I sold the truck, I even stepped up to a 125 shot. I ran the same type setup in my '96 s10 with a 350, 4spd manual, 100 shot, and 3.42 gears; I haven't had a minute's trouble with either. I still have the one with 4.11 gears and locker out of the v6 if you're interested.

I did try drag radials on the v8, but then people wouldn't race me; I don't think the rearend would've held up long behind the v8 with drag radials. I never put either on the track, anyway; I hate to admit it, but I used to be one of theose pesky street racers that ruined it for everyone else. On the v6, I ran 275/60/15 street tires (but theyhad decent traction) on the rear and 235/60/15 on the front and dropped the rear 2". With the tool box, people just thought it was an old junker work truck, 'till they raced it.
