Ok, a friend of mine has a '98 4X4 Dakota and he's looking to either modify it, or sell it for a profit and pick up an older one to mod... He has heard that the IFS on the 4X4 Dakotas has "issues" and he should stray away from Dakotas for that reason (he already has replaced a ball joint). So what's the deal? I told him that with the money he makes off of selling his current one he could have a solid axle setup fabed and not have to worry. Does anyone here have experience with the Dakota IFS? How's the custom SA sound? Just looking to help him make an informed decision, thanks!

SWAP IN A SOLID AXLE!
I had a 97 Dakota and put a Tuff Counrty lift on with 35's.. holy crap it sucked! I replaced 3 ball joints, BOTH Hubs @ 274.00 each! both upper ball joints. also the upper control arms kept moving so the camber was always screwed up!!! I loved the truck however. it was good lookin! But I had to sell it for something bigger.

try doing a search or posting on www.dakota-durango.com,or dakotausa.com, i know a couple of people on there have done a straight axle swap, some with the newer dakotas and some with the genIIs and gen Is. so they would know what is involved. hope this helps!
