Hey Guys, I have a question. What gears would you use for performance if your motor made approx 380Hp and 450lbs Tq to the flywheel? I currently have 3.73’s and just came across some 4.10’s for a steal. This truck is a daily driver that I like to bring to the track every once in a while and I also like to play around on the street with other rides that look like a good race. I hear that 3.73’s are best for a motor with a strong low end or a supercharger and 4.10’s are better for high revving motor or a motor with limited low end. I also notice that most sub 12 sec Ford lighting guys are running 3.73’s and sometimes even 3.55’’s no 4.10’s there. These guys have tons of money dumped in their ride and would only use what works best for their ride. The reason I ask is I have a Nissan Titan and my 5.6 earns most of it’s keep down low! I am looking for ¼ mile performance. I understand that the 4.10’s will probably help my 60ft times or 0-60 times….But, how much would the 4.10 hurt me at the end of the ¼. Will the ET be close to the same and would you expect me to loose trap spd mph with 4.10's?
FYI… Titans have 2.94’s or 3.36’s. Our tranny is geared differently so we don’t need as much gear. Nissan says the 2.94 gives similar acceleration to a 3.73 on a 4spd where a 3.36 gives acceleration like a 4.10 on a 4 spd. I have 2.94 and looking to go over to a 3.36. I just wanted to pick your brains before doing the ring and pinion swap! I know I will get worst gas mileage with the 3.36 (or 4.10 4spd) that’s kool as long as it can make up for it in performance. And the big question is will the 3.36’s or (4.10 4spd) provide enough performance to be worth the trouble of the swap?
Hope this makes sense..
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Mark
