Hey Guys, I have a question. What gears would you use for performance if your motor made approx 380Hp and 450lbs Tq to the flywheel? I currently have 3.73’s and just came across some 4.10’s for a steal. This truck is a daily driver that I like to bring to the track every once in a while and I also like to play around on the street with other rides that look like a good race. I hear that 3.73’s are best for a motor with a strong low end or a supercharger and 4.10’s are better for high revving motor or a motor with limited low end. I also notice that most sub 12 sec Ford lighting guys are running 3.73’s and sometimes even 3.55’’s no 4.10’s there. These guys have tons of money dumped in their ride and would only use what works best for their ride. The reason I ask is I have a Nissan Titan and my 5.6 earns most of it’s keep down low! I am looking for ¼ mile performance. I understand that the 4.10’s will probably help my 60ft times or 0-60 times….But, how much would the 4.10 hurt me at the end of the ¼. Will the ET be close to the same and would you expect me to loose trap spd mph with 4.10's?

FYI… Titans have 2.94’s or 3.36’s. Our tranny is geared differently so we don’t need as much gear. Nissan says the 2.94 gives similar acceleration to a 3.73 on a 4spd where a 3.36 gives acceleration like a 4.10 on a 4 spd. I have 2.94 and looking to go over to a 3.36. I just wanted to pick your brains before doing the ring and pinion swap! I know I will get worst gas mileage with the 3.36 (or 4.10 4spd) that’s kool as long as it can make up for it in performance. And the big question is will the 3.36’s or (4.10 4spd) provide enough performance to be worth the trouble of the swap?
Hope this makes sense..

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Mark

I'd stick with what you've got, Mark.

I went from the 2.94's to 3.36's and although my truck is much quicker from a stop, the 2.94's were better off once rolling.

Also, the 3.36's kinda suck from a roll because the tranny kickdown leaves the engine up past the power peak. We dont make anything past 5K.

Once we can get the redline dropped to 5K or get some more aggressive cams, the higher gears will be the way to go. But IMO, not until then.

I knew it....So you will get to 60 quicker with the 3.36 right...but if we both floor it at 80 and I have the 2.94, I will buss dat azz right?

lol!

hehe if you dont want them i will buy them from ya :)

also mark he is semi right :P since the tune i dont think you'd have a prob with the new gears look at your hp past 5k now compared to what it was with stock ecu map.. remember how it fell off that cliff and went straight down? well mine pulls hard all the way to redline with this tune. even thought the hp still goes down it's STILL MAKING POWER vs. not making anything past 5200..
now the even better news.. in the 60ft i bet you'd shave .25 off to .3 off just by getting 17x10 rims with drag radial tires and the gear swap and this is being super conservative.. less rotational mas = faster remember your 60ft's last night where 2.3 you can definatly improve that by stickier smaller tires..
but here's the trade off your e.t will be atleast .3 to .4 faster in the 1/4 but you will mostly likely lose that beloved 95mph trap speed be down to 93 or so..
