Man, this is the one Dodge truck I could ever own... and there's no one in here with pics or anything! Some questions then, did the R/T ever come with a manual? What years was it produced? What other websites are there for R/T enthusiasts?

There are only a couple Dakota guys tht frequent the board so that why no activity in here.
They never came with a standard. Not sure what years it was made and no idea on other boards i don't have one.

I believe they were produced from 98-03....I have a 03 RT RC, and know that it is the last year for the RT's I have not found any RT specific boards.
The truck is alot of fun...it just needs MORE POWER.

98 was the first year, they came out about 3 months after I got my old 98 ss/t (fastest dodge truck to be had at the time before the rt) in April of 98.

98-03, no manuals. all years were identical with only interior changes. here is the best R/T specific forum i have found... it has any thing you could ever wish to know. http://forums.delphiforums.com/dakotart/start. want some pics? lol they have plenty. i have a few, but it just looks stock :). that site is probably the reason that the few RT guys dont post on this board all that often, we get it out of our system over there.

All I can tell you that the new R/T Dakotas are a joke. I could not believe how slow they were. They sounds great from the factory, that's about it.
As for the older R/Ts, I always thought they were cool, but never got to drive one.

Nope, they made them again in 2006. I think they have 260hp 310ft=lbs HO engine. They mucked up and used a 4.7 liter though and most V6 trucks in the same class out accelerated it in tests, including my test when I was out looking at them.

Yeah, I looked all over York county to find one because back when the R/T used the 5.9, I thought they were awsome trucks, so I wanted to buy a brand new one. I was so upset after driving it and Dodeg def lost my confidence in the R/T line.

The new R/T's need the 5.7 hemi in them. If the RC/SB 5000lb ram can run 15.1-14.7 with the hemi stock, the 4000lb Dak R/T would be a low 14 or high 13 second truck stock. Or just stuff a 6.1L in them and have a 12 second truck out of the box. ;)

Too bad they never came with a stick :( Yea, I saw one of those new "r/t"s the other day, I thought the guy had some vinyls made... fugly trucks! I'd love to have an old one someday, maybe a stroked 360 with a single turbo with a T56 behind it... mmmm

No Hemi in the new R/T's? That sucks!!
I had a 97 reg cab Dakota w/ the 318 and a 5-speed. I'd wear out the R/T all day long with that truck. I just wished it had the looks of the R/T when i still owned it. Truck was alot of fun to drive.
To the Lightning killer comment.... That truck would kill alot more than just Lightnings....unless the L had a turbo also :)

There'll always be someone faster, it all depends on how much you're willing to kill your wallet :jest: either truck would be a blast to own. What 5 speed came behind the 318s?

i like the R/Ts, but they dont run very good. when they came out they were something to talk about.
i raced a guy with a R/T, had quite a bit done to it, in my stock TBSS. would have been a good race had he been able to get traction. but my SS had unconsensual sexual relations with it.
i liked the truck though, from about a 25 punch he could get it sideways.

They're nothing special stock, mid-low 15's, but with the right combo they can put out some good power. But as with any truck, traction is always the key, I've lost to 13sec cars before because I was on street tires and can't hook under 45mph, on DR's tho, it's a very different story

if you ask any true dakota or dodge geek those were not R/T's. it was mearly a sitcker package and some aesthetics. most of them were 4wd too.
the R/T ended in 03. i have a 02 RC R/T that runs 13.0ish with pretty much bolt ons. damn heavy truck though buy handles great. i am trying to sell mine though. into doing the boating thing now not racing
