I bet that thing is impossible to keep clean. A white truck and all that diesel smoke.

Heh, I was approached by North American Performance Diesel the last time I was at the track. They wanted to take my half ton hemi ram and swap a cummings into it to try and run some 10's. They've got a 1 ton ram running low 11's.
Impressive video, now if only I had 15K lieing around I could turn my high 13 second hemi into a 10 second cummings. Neat to see someone else has done it.

$15k?? Ha, for that you may be able to buy the tranny and suspension.. A motor like that will set you back $20k alone, not counting your twins, intake exhaust, and computer mods..

I'll donate my truck to a shop that wants a half ton cummins as long as its a 6-speed and still mine

Are you gonna pay for all the parts?

Actually I can pick up a cummins from a wreckers here for extremely cheap. Though the turbos and such would be pricey.
What's involved, I'd need a new engine, tranny, computer, and rear diff. A custom driveshaft would also be needed. The guys I was talking to build trannies to take the 1000hp+.
Up here in the great white north, there's a cummins on every street corner, and the drivers here suck so I am sure there's a boat load of good low milage engines at the wreckers to be had. Can also get the computer and tranny at the same time. Then it's just beefing them up.
Still too much money for me, but would be crazy fun. :)

Figure about $20k in pistons, rods, bolts, balancing, blue printing, oil passage cleanup, crank polishing, oil nozzles, ported and polished head, camshaft, springs, pushrods, lifters, etc, just for the motor to handle 1000 fwhp. Custom twins usually run about $4k-$6k, a bullet proof billet everything tranny is about $8k, differential will be fine, but some bracing and beefy axles will run you about $2k, chomeoly driveshaft with center bearing about $1k, computer mods (for a common rail) about $2k, injectors, $1500, Hot Rod CP3 injection pump $2k, 4-link suspension about $4k, nitrous $1k, water injection $800.
Thats just main stuff, I would add another $5k ontop of that for misc labor, parts, custom fabrication, etc.
Pretty much figure at least $50k for a solid 10 second diesel truck..
I've got about $20k in mine to run mid 12s. I guess a good estimate is $10k-$15k for every second you wanna go faster.

I am thinking you wouldn't need to go all out as that, given a half ton truck is a good serveral K lb's lighter then your 3/4 or 1 ton rams that tip the scales at 8000lbs. Course the cummins isn't a light engine and all those beefed up parts to handle it will weigh some.
Wonder what a cummins in a half ton with less extreme work would do.

Not a whole lot.. Going 10s with over 5000 lbs, is still gonna require some good suspension work.. Garmon's is runnin a 12V in a half ton truck, and he has some pretty good amount of work done to the engine and I think he is only running mid 10s. You really dont loose a whole lot of weight going into a half ton, maybe 1000 lbs if your lucky (depending on how lightly you box the frame and beef it u to handle the big motor). Anyways, when you're pushing 1600 ft/lbs of torque, 1000 lbs only seems like 100 lbs to a diesel..
