I have a cluck that can be felt in the floorboard. It does it every so often. Mostly as I pull in to the garage. I've jacked the damn truck up at least three times. I can't locate the noise. The only thing I can think of is the backlash in the front and rear-ends. I can grab my front drive shaft and make it cluck by turning it while the truck is in park. BUT I can slide under the wife’s 05, and Hers feels just as loose (he, he). I also don't think it is the steering shaft, While at the races last Friday someone else heard it to... WHILE THEY WERE IN THEIR CAR. lol. I've pretty much given up on finding the noise before it cost me a lot of money. unless any of you have any thoughts.

 

loose tranny mount?? is it "metallic" sounding at all???

 

Mine makes a soft clunk too. I was thinking suspension? I come to a stop and just when I start to roll it happens.

 

Been there done that. Put some grease on the yoke that slides into the rear of the tranny and it will go away.

This is a common problem with our trucks. I have had my d shaft greased 2 times now under warranty. It will go away for about 6 months then come right back. Supposedly the newer 4x4 trucks are getting a nickel ( i think ) coated yoke to slow the problem down and hopefully eliminate it.

 

My 99' had this same problem, the dealership replaced the slip yoke w/ the nickle coated version and it cured it. I can't say how long it will last because I sold it shortly after doing so. It's probably just as good as their steering shafts.

 

I don't think it is the slip joint, but I'll grease it anyway...... It now does it at 45 when the converter locks...

 

Well I found the noise It was a lowwer Ball joint.
Anyone know of a good place to get a replacement?
