Default trans problems

i have a 99 GMC SCSB 4.8L my truck wont pull it self up a hill in overdrive it feels like im running over A SERIES of bumps and i have no power, but when it shifts into 3rd its fine the only gear that acts up is OD. fluid is good but did smell warm ( not burnt ) when i checked after it acted up.

also if i hAVE to rebuild my tranny what some good things to beef up allready planning on vette servo. in the future my truck will be naturally asperated but tuned with headers and probably a cam ill order a different stall when i get the cam. looking for GOOD tranny that wont give me future problems in small price range.

thanx nick

Next time it happens lightly touch the break pedal and see if it goes away while keeping your foot on the gas. See if it goes away.Vince

You suspect the converter?

They keep those transmissions down the aisle, between the unicorns and

Leprechauns.

it only stalls in overdrive though if it was the converter it would do it at a certain RPM in every gear?
what would i be doing by lightly touching the brake.

thanx for your help i thought this would be a more common problem.

By lightly pressing the brake while keeping the gas steady it should release the tcc. I'm wanting to see if the condition goes away when you do this. Also does your trans seem to be shifting any harder?
