My father has a 95 5 speed Turbo Diesel. I was wondering if there is any free mods or basic bolt ons that we can do to the truck to give it a little more power and fuel economy. He is going to start pulling a 28 foot fith wheel so more power would help out alot. I will take any sugestions because I am not familiar with turbo diesels.

1. Cat and Muffler delete with straight pipe. It isn't very loud and is pretty cheap. A 3" downpipe and larger diameter piping would help the most however.
2. Get a 97+ dual thermostat and hi-flow water pump kit. I had a 95 model and keeping it from running hot was a challenge. This late model water pump and thermostat housings is really a must with towing IMO.
3. Get a pre-turbo EGT gauge! These 6.5L diesels will get hot quick because they are non-intercooled.

Check out www.kennedydiesel.com for parts.

There are tons of other mods, but they are more costly. An intercooler is one of the best additions to these trucks. They can then run more boost like a true turbo diesel should.

You need to relocate the PMD, just get it off the injector pump gets too hot in the V of the engine.

The dual thermostat is must, and if you have not done it replace the factory downpipe with an aftermarket (a lot better flow).

check out warpspeedperformance.com for a cheap good turbo back. Open up the intake to the turbo with maybe a K&N, move the PMD so it doesnt get too hot, install an intercooler. Those things will give it a little jump in power and a big jump in economy/reliability. After those things are done he can go as far as injectors, chip, pump tweeks.

I wasn't aware of an intercooler that was available for these trucks. Does it have to be fabricated?
