These trucks arent made to drag race off the lot... You probably wasted about 10k miles off that clutch by rpm-dropping it.. The clutches in the manuals as well as the automatics in these dodges are only meant to handle maybe 50 FWHP over stock before you start to see problems with them.
The ones you see on the street more than likely have after market fueling boxes, and probably last about 15k miles before needing a new clutch or transmission..

Put a box on it and see what itll do...
As far as dumping the clutch, I wouldnt with a diesel, what are the new ones rated at 610ftlbs of torque?...
Unless you have a built auto and some ginormous slicks I really dont see you hooking with a modded diesel...So I really fail to see the point in dumping the clutch...
My '97 still breaks them lose at 40-45mph with a tad over 950ft lbs of torque...
Its deffinantly not a dig racer...

For the auto/manual debate its all in what you do with it and what you want to replace down the road/how long you are going to own it...

i have a 65hp module and 17000 miles with no real trans problems. I dont drive it incredibly hard. Mines a 4x4 and if I do race someone I put it in 4hi. I have had no problems with 2x4 hemis or chevy or ford equivalent. Mine is an auto and would still peel the tires from a punch without the box. I dont see why a 6sp with that super steep 1st gear wouldnt roast them easily.

your dumping the clutch on a first gear that maybe offers...15 or so miles per hour b/f needing to shift again. Try it in second gear and see what happens. I dont know the gear/max speed on the 6sp dodges, but you are too steep.

15?
LOL
I get maybe 5-10 max...
First is only good to use on a steep hill or with a real heavy load...

I start off in 2nd all the time and sometimes 3rd, or with any lil roll, 3rd....

:judge: First gear is uesless on the street, but my truck being stock can chirp 3rd if I try. And if I side step the clutch in 3rd, with limited slip I can spin them pretty good.
