Hey Guys,
What would be involved in putting a diesel motor into a 1/2 ton gas truck? From the looks of the motor I bet the mpg and power would be sick! Anyone done this before? Links? Thoughts? I know I would need to put a new tranny in also...My current rig is a '03 1500 4.8 ltr.
Help help help...

You would need:
Motor mounts
3/4 ton front crossmember
Radiator
ECM
HD Transmission
Larger diameter driveshaft
3/4 ton Tranny crossmember
New A/C lines
3/4 ton diesel fuel tank
and probably some other miscellaneous items..
It much more worth it to trade in for a 3/4 ton diesel. The only guys that are swapping diesels into 1/2 tons are the drag racers for the lighter frame and lower stance..

since you have a ecsb you can get a diesel in that configuration in 2500 2wd
...but if you really wanted a rcsb diesel i think it would be easier to get a rclb and cut the frame to shorten it and reweld it and bolt a short bed on it, since you cant get a rcsb hd truck
someone sells a 6/8 drop for the hd trucks ...either belltech or djm...that should be low enough with some low pro tires
i considered the swap in my truck but when i thought about all that was involved, i decided against it

Im just thinking that it would be a sick street/strip/daily driver w/ the better stance, weight, and the power advantages

it'd be pretty sick indeed.
There was a tuner truck that took the ECSB 2500 and shortened it up.
You wouldn't want to drop a dmax in the 1500 frame... way to heavy for that front end to support in my opinion. It'd be tricky to get the dmax w/ allison stuffed in the 1500 properly.
