View Full Version : Question for you "L" guys

Any guesses on what a newer Lightning with cat back, intake, TB, and a tune would run? And how about one that has also been pullied? I'm trying to gauge if I can keep up with you guys while staying N/A... I doubt I can take one without some heads or LTs and E-fans, but I'd like to see if I can run side by side with my current set-up.

With what you just listed, low 13's probably.

With pullies, it depends on the size and the tune. Anywhere from high 12's to low 12's, sometimes 11's if they're setup right.

I'm assuming he's refering to me when I said I'd spray to win, instead of staying N/A on them.

I think he's just jealous though :jest:

I saw 401hp and 482trq with a 4# pulley, CAI, cat-back exhaust, race tune with 20* timing 104 octane and an a/f of 11.8, and built tranny with stall, and was around 8.2 range with 28/10.5/16 Hoosier slicks, it really desn't take much to get an L to that mark, but the 7.99 or faster starts to take $1,000+ mods

The exhaust on a 99-04 L's flow really well, without long tubes, cat-backs are for sound, most see no gains except in the "seat of your pants" dyno

Without the help of a pulley the other mods really don't do much for power. With cat-back and CAI I saw 343 hp and 413 trq

I agree, but it also depends on traction, I have seen 12.7-12.9 in the 1/4 with the listed mods, 4# pulley and drag radials

a power adder is a power adder mechanical or chemical so you have to spray to keep up with a supercharged truck. Just watch out for bottle fed lightnings a 50 shot once it is compressed through the blower will add closer to 100hp

? would a NOSzles system for a mustang 4.6 work on our trucks so you could control the amount of nitrous better. i think a nitrous kit on my truck would be cool

That's interesting because I thought about going to a bottle.I never thought of that. :)

the more boost = more air and nitrous if used packed into the cylender if the nitrous is added on top of the blower it will compress the same as the air if it is added below the blower it is easer to controle the shot. it will still have an aditional + of coolling the air charge if you add a dry shot start small and push your injectors full rich then back down you may wish to have a flip chip so you do not run excessively rich when not using your nitrous and remember lean is mean but rich is safe

nice i forgot about the stupid amounts of tq nitrous adds at what rpm where your peek numbers 90 hp and 180 ftlbs is a good increase are you using a dry or wet kit and whose the manufacturer

wow! whats your tq and hp curves look like the peek hp at 3200 rpms seems low the blower on my truck dosent realy get started tell 3000rpm? but mine is not yet modded i would have expected more like 3600rpm tq and 5200rpm hp

I was thinking about either a 50-75 shot or a 6lb lower. But since I have a Xcal 2 the pulley sounds a little better instead of getting a chip.Plus it'll be cheaper in the long run.If I do go w/ NOS I'll have it set up where it only comes on under WOT.I'm just not sure if the motor will hold any more and I was thinking of the pulley just to get the tq I lost w/ a #4.

that sound like a good question for scott but i havent seen any post from him recently
are you running a stock bottom end? from what i've gatherd so far about 450hp and the bottom ends granade and the rods are the weekest link

im still farly new to the lightning game and am unshure of the specifics of these engines ask a question about an AMC engine and im good to go

It all depends on the truck, on my 2002 Lightning I had a 43 poulley, single flash chip, CAI, and cat back exhaust, I blew 4 rods out of the side of the block

Mark #2 on TALON has been running like 20psi on his Kenne Bell, and he has stock heads, cams and stock internale running 11.5x in the 1/4, and has been doing so for 2+ years now

Another truck I know has a 4# lower and minor bolt ons, and runs a 150 NX wet shot, it took him 5 years before he finally blew the motor on his 99 L

I have seen really high hp trucks blow and low hp trucks blow motors, ITS ALL IN THE TUNE, and being smart using race gas, changing plugs, fuel filters, etc

My .02, get the pulley, N20 is a great source of power, but two reasons I havent put juice on my truck:

1.I want the power all the time, not just when the bottle is full and armed

2. Nos is like a hot girl with an STD, you want to hit it, but your afraid of the consequences

again, my .02

I've heard that before and I know what you mean. Will a #6 get me a good amount of extra TQ?From what I can tell a #4 is good for a HP boost but doesn't do much for TQ.

no its not that the power starts at 3000...it that i dident start my pull untill 2800...the truck spins on the dyno... :drive:

I picked up 60 lbs of TQ with a 4lber. They're all gonna increase power. A sixer should put you right around 400/500, maybe over depending on how strong the truck is before you mod it and how good of a tune you get. Hell, I'm at 380/490 with a 4 lb lower and 2.8 upper, and that only equates out to 12.5 psi for me. A 6lb lower is usually good for 13/14 psi.

I have a K&N FIPK, 6# Lower, CANNED Predator Tune, TR6s, Factory Tech Valve Body, and Aux idlers. I ran my best of 13.03@104.9 with a 1.9 60' on stock F1s, during my 14 runs back to back and i stayed between 13.03 and 13.2.

Sal told me that's about right for a 99.I'm just tryng to up the TQ since that's what pushes you down the track.HP just makes it kick in faster unless I'm mistaken.

Quick question. When you guys say #4 pulley or #6 pulley what do you mean?

We're just refering to how much boost over stock the pulley will produce. Our trucks pur out 8 psi from the factory, so if one of us says we're runnin a 4 lber, then that means we're seeing 12 psi of boost.
