Hey I'm new to this site but not ls1tech.com. Alright here is what I need to know, My brother has a 2000 F350 dualy 4x4 (with a locking diff and locking hubs in the front). It has the 7.3L diesel(correct me if i'm wrong) in it, he wants to get a chip for it so he can get better fuel mileage. He will have to tow a small fork lift with his truck and it will be loaded most of the time with bee hives (no box on it). I've heard of some diesel performance companies like Banks, Bully Dog, Superchips etc. Any help would be great. Thanks

Go to www.dp-tuner.com
They offer chips or programmers to suite your needs. They are one of the best specializing in 7.3L's.
Another one is www.dieselinnovations.com
Check them out. I have an SCT Xcal2 programmer with Dptuner files on it and they are great. You will be much better off performance and durability wise with one of these custom chips v.s. other generic products IMO.

My step dad has the same truck but a 99.5 with the 6 spd. They installed the 6 position Bully Dog chip and love it. They have had it chipped for about a year and a half. He works on a ranch so it is used to pull large trailers sometimes. The nice thing about the 6 position is you can turn it up when you want more power and turn it down to keep the exhaust temps down when pulling. They just recently added the Bully Dog CAI and 5'' (not Bully Dog) exhaust which cut down on the black smoke. I found the chip at Cyclone Diesel for I think about $380 (it has been awhile since it was ordered), which has more than paid for itself with the increase in gas prices not to mention the faces of people you leave behind.

I forgot to check this post. I'm checking out the new sites that were put up. I'm also looking into a programmer from Hypertech. Anyone every dealt with them or used thier products?

Any other tips for improving fuel mileage in his truck?

I have a 01 7.3 4inch leveling kit with 35 bfg alt with 4inch stainless of the turbo. no exhaust valve. cold air intake. edge juice with attitude and the edge evolution. i just pulled 4600 pounds not incuding the trailer 90mph from wyoming to utah and got 15mpg. if i am empty on the highway it will get around 25 if i let my mom take it. if i drive it will get around 23 to24.

If you plan on changing to a larger exhaust and a cold air intake i would go with one of the larger programmers like banks or bully dog, but if you arr running stock intake and exhaust i would look into a superchips programmer.

I was looking at Superchips it might work because I found a dealer close to me. How much would fule mileage increase with the tuner from Superchips. Thanks for the input.

three trucks ago(lol) my had had an 02 with the 7.3 in it, 4" lift with some 37" bfg muds.

He had stock intake and exhaust and ran the a BD chip. I thought it was pretty good, made a hellofa difference.

Now he has an 04 6.0 with an Edge, intake and exhaust and it would keep up with my last truck and get like 20 mpg hw. I was running a low low 15 and I could have gotten a high 14, but I didnt have the time at the track.

How much is 17.5mpg over stock mpg?
Are you running the superchips programmer?

I am not sure what the stock mpg is, I put the superchips on it with about 1300 miles on it and i have over 3000 now with the miles i put on i get in the mid 17s running 80+ on the highway. I am happy with the fuel milage but i am more impressed with the power it gave me. I was talking to a few friends over the weekend that have the 7.3 and they got the best fuel milage out of the smallest Bully Dog chip but they also said ya have to stay out of the turbo as much as you can.
