I have had people tell me im gunna kill my tranny with just a cold air kit, exhaust and a tune....... if this is true why do magazines and stuff not recommend tranny upgrades when people add propane and nitrous to their trucks?

It is arguable, but most will find that anything over 100hp is pushing the limits of the stock Ally.
I have had my Edge on level 4 (125hp) for nearly 2 years now w/o a problem.
If you have a very heavy foot, keep it under 100hp. If you drive mildly w/ only the occasional beating, turn it up a bit.

well is there anything that can help the durability.... ie. shift kit or an upgraded tranny cooler(which the temps never get much higher than 150 degrees now).
I keep the 50hp tune in the truck i just want to be able to go to the track and put the 100 hp tune in it and get an ET and if some1 wants to talk shit on the skreet or something I want to be able to swap em tune and smoke their ass and not be scared or know my tranny could take a shit on me any second.
I could go ahead and buy an aftermarket tranny and stuff....... but why fix something that isn't broken?

If you keep around 50hp you shouldn't have a problem, my lly limps on any thing over 40hp. The converter is the first weakness in the trans. A shift kit might help but you have to drop the trans to install it. Just wait untill it starts slipping(and it will) and put a suncoast stage 3 in it.

What box/programmer do you have?
If you really only use the 50hp setting normally, the tranny "should" easily take a couple 100hp romps. Like I said, I ALWAYS have mine at 125hp (except when towing) and I have drag raced it many times on the street and track w/o a glitch. And my tranny is 100% stock.
So play at your own risk but like blacksheep said, put a SCIII kit in the tranny and you can put the biggest and badest tune out there on it and run low 13's to high 12" on diesel only!
BTW a SCIII is about $3600 installed. Of course much cheaper if you can do it yourself.

The tranny swap it self wouldn't be hard at all since by the time I actually start modding the truck I will have a shop built and a rack inside and a tranny swap wouldn't be any trouble.... I just don't want to break anything in the truck period...
but I think i'm heading to the track today!

There is something you can do to your tranny without having to spend all that money on a new one. Check Bully Dogs web site and look under the videos. There is a video about a episode of Trucks, were they do a power programmer, exhaust, propane, and nitrous. And he does something in the internals of the trans, can't remember off the top of my head, but the video is well worth watching. I will see if I can get you a link.

The el-cheapo Bully Dog mod is a complete waste of time and money. Don't do it.

We did the BullyDog shift enhancer kit in a customer's DMX and he's pushing well over 425hp with a Dyno Dominator and propane.. 12k miles later, still no complaints..

If you can resist the urge to mod the truck, the allison will last you a very long time. On the other hand, who can resist turning it up a bit when its so easy? If you do that, suncoast is the way to go.

its a company truck... so it might get intake, exhaust and a module from bully dog or something... thats it though..
we only tow a 16' Vanbody tandem axle trailer (max 9k lbs)
but we are also getting a Cummins. so lets see which one will hold up...
