I just got back home from picking it up, the drive is 161 miles.
First impression: I could feel that the power was alot different then before. I tended to run the rpms up real high around 4500-6500 before the Radix. It know feels the best all the way from 2500-6500 rpms, it literally sits you back in the seat. On the highway it can best be described as a Freight Train (good analogy BlownChevy) it is unreal from 65-120 on a 3rd gear drop (be ready to shift real fast). The power is so linear that you dont notice how fast you are accelerating until you look at the cars that were just next to you, they are now back 1/8 mile or more within a few seconds. Getting over to my house I had a chance to run a good 1st to 2nd romp and my neck is hurting. This thing revs as fast as my 2002 Z06 did, I am going back out for a little drive.

It is going to take some practice launching this without turning the tires into dust.

Keep in mind that this is completely stock other then the Supercharger. I still have to do LT Headers, Full Exhaust, Intake Mods, 4.10 or 4.56 Gears then I will probably need some different pullies for the back of the supercharger to get the boost at 6-7 psi.
I need to do something about the traction first. It will still launch pretty good out of the hole from an idle and once you are moving it stays put real good. I just want some stickier tires that are a little wider (335/30R20), these are actually 1" shorter so it will effect the feel also.

I have a Tahoe and the 4.10's run out real quick on top. I sit a about 2000rpm at 70mph in OD. You don't weigh near what I weigh so I wouldn’t go 4.56:1 on the rear on the SSR. You may not even like 4.10:1. If you mostly drive it in town then it would be nice with 4.10’s.
leftcoast32
10-19-2005, 06:51 PM
I am going to wait on the gears till I figure out the height of the new rear tires I get. The stock tires are 295/45R20 at 29.2" tall and most of the tires I am looking at 335/30R20 are around 28" tall so it will make a difference. It has 3.73 gears right now so I think 4.10 will be good with the lower profile tires.

Hell Yeah, I was impressed, your SSR is almost as fast as the 2500HD, your so close :jest:
Seriously though, it pulls like a raped ape! that 1-2 shift was nice, shit, you only need 3 gears now :drive:

I've got an 05 ssr that I put 4.10's in. It likes them alot better. I think it takes advantage of the high winding LS2 much better, and with 6 gears it still can knock down 30 mpg @ 65 mph, and hits the speed limiter @ 125 in 3rd without a problem.
Keep posting on your times and such with the sc. If I decide to keep this thing, I may follow suit.
My 01 C3 with the 625hp turbo does'nt get near the mpg, and is'nt quite as fun to drive, but it's paid for, so I'm trying to decide which vehicle has to go?
01C3? 05SSR? 67BBC camaro? 69rs/ss camaro? So many choices.

I don't know, considering the Mercedes SL500 is about 4100 lbs, that seems about right, considering the SSR is bigger.

They did alot of reinforcing to make up for the retractable top. ASC did a concept with a carbon fiber hood, fixed top and bed cover and were able to trim 1000 pounds off. The retractable top adds alot of weight it is all done with hydraulics and a computer, it probably weighs 500 pounds alone.
Mr. Sandog
11-01-2005, 10:57 AM
Right, which is why I compared it to the SL500, because the Mercedes has the same deal. One good thing is, with the extra weight, it does stick to the road a little better.

Billet valve covers and coil relocation brackets along with a total rewire job underhood is next. These are pictures of the 1 1/4" covers, I am getting the 2" ones. The coil relocation brackets are also made from billet aluminum and put the coils right next to each other so it looks cleaner.
Can you provide a link to the valve covers and coil brackets please. I want to do that. Are you going to do the rewireing or hire it done? I'd love to see the underhood wiring be a little less obtrusive.

This is the link to the valve covers above, I am ordering the billet covers with all the welding done inside. I will be doing the rewire to clean up the engine compartment myself, it is really not that hard. I have rewired alot of vehicles in the past, I would not recommend doing this to someone that has never done it before.

The guy that does the valve covers said he can get them finished and shipped next week. I need to make the brackets to hold the coild relocation kits. I also need to order some wire connectors for the fuel injectors. It should probably be the end of next week at the earliest.
