I have a 01 Ford Lightning that is completly stock, and not too long ago it started to miss (thats the only way that i can describe it it guess) at high RPM's and higher boost. Now, the supercharger used to have a nice solid whine to it, but now it has a skip in it. I thought at first that it had to have been that it wasnt getting enough fuel, so i had the pressure tested and it was fine all the way through the RPM band, i also had to injectors cleaned and they flowed adequite for stock. and of course after all that i changed the fuel filter. This stumps me because it still does it so maybe its not fuel, but when i run a bottle of octane booster through it makes it run better about half way through the tank. i just dont know what to do?????????????? :confused:

Check you plugs. You may have burnt one or you could also be losing a coil pack. You can also try resetting your ECM. That might help if by chance you're throwing a random code for some reason.

My plugs were changed to the tr6's when i had the injectors cleaned and flowed, where do i get the ECM reset, and how do i test if i have a coil pack goin out?

easiest way to reset the PCM is to unhook the battery then turn on the headlights to completely drain the system. This works to completely reset the whole computer and might take care of your problem. As for the coil pack you may need to get a diagnostic done at a Ford dealership. Or if you know someone with a Predator tuner it can scan your truck for codes that may not be triggering the SES Light. Good luck man.

You don't need to turn on your lights or anything like that. Just unhook the ground cable for at least 10 mins and you're goood to go. You will probably have to take it into Ford to have the coil packs tested.

You can test them yourself with an OHMs meter. I dont remeber right off hand what the OHMs should be, but you will know which one is the bad one by comparing the readings. If they all show up good, check your vacum hoses. I have had them come out before and run like crap.
If you do much washing under your hood at the car wash, more than likely coil packs is your problem if you have already changed you fuel filter.

i had the same problem with my 01, and it truned out to be the number one coil pack. there pretty easy to change out. hope you figure it out.

coil packs are pretty robust, look at the top of the coil, if there is a crack it's trash, if there are no cracks pull out the coil packs and look at the condition of the boot. Cracked or soft--trash

Mines doing the same thing right now. Kind of started looking at the head gasket on the passenger side, since i lost oil, and its going crazy rich on that side.
