in eugene there is a kid who likes to talk trash about peoples rides, and since i just bought a 2001 L, he thinks he ownes me. Truth be told he's LS1 is completely stock and he got walked all over by a Honda S 2000. now he wants me to throw down, my truck isn't anything special but it produces 393rwhsp. where as his vette only puts out 300rwhsp. i guess i'm asking to see what you guys think i should do?

Welcome to the site. What all is done to your truck? And I think you should race him, should be a good race.

not much really, cmputer chip, complete nitrous wet kit, soon to have new cams, a new pulley, and a programer.

Race him and let us know what his excuses were for losing.

Should take him with the spray. I kicked the shit out of a C5 Vette that was slightly modified, and it was when I only had a 35 dry shot, and no heater. the only time my spray ever worked right was after I got the heater, so I am not for sure if I was even getting juice when I ran the vette.

You should spank him in the 1/4 mile! Just don't spin too much off the line!!! :) Jim

Old Vettes? thats like saying a 99 is an "Old Lightning"

I wouldn't bother with cams at this point, when you bump up to a bigger blower, ported heads, ported lower intake, then yes you will see the benefits to larger cams.

I used to walk C5 Vettes with a single flash superchip, 4# crank pulley, cat back and CAI back 5 years ago. Race him from a stop, you will have the advantage as the Vettes are geared for highway and the 01+ L have 3.73 gears stock. If its past 100mph, dont even bother racing him, these trucks arent made for long highway races, cause you will see pieces of you motor after too long.

........race in the rain............

Racing in the rain is a horrible and unsafe idea, espically when our trucks cant stay straight on a dry day

that is why i'm waiting for a dry day. and those don't come very often in oregon. we might even go to woodburn and race in a controled enviornment.

You sure they were racing? I've seen stock L's pace and/or beat C5's.

the thing is that my L is not stock, throwing down 393 rwhsp without my bottle, when stock they only put down 360 at the crank.

360? I thought they were quite a bit higher than that at the crank.I've been told a stock 99-00 has roughly 320rwhp.

360 at the crank for 99/00.

380 at the crank for 01 and up.

Both those numbers are waaayyyy under rated. I put down 358/433 bone stock with 65 k on the clock. These trucks are probably closer to ~400 or more at the crank when stock.

With nitrous you should beat a stock Vette. Just make sure you run YOUR race not his. Go from a dig!
You also didn't say if it was a 6spd or A4 Vette. Shouldn't matter if you get traction and run a 1/4 mile.
Good luck, if I got beat by a stock S2000 I think I'd have problems. Maybe he can't drive for $h!t.

Bone stock my 2000 C5 A4 with 3.15 gears went 13.01@105.6mph and 2.0 60'. With a filter, off-road Xpipe and Z06 mufflers it went 12.50@111mph 1.91 60'.

Not saying wether you can beat him or not, just giving some facts on what C5s autos can do besides slide around corners LOL . :)

C5s have traction problems too if they run stock runflats (http://fatalfoo.com/Movies/C5%20Slide.wmv)

yeah so the vett wasnt stock, and my nitrous wasnt working. so long story short he used the juice in third gear which kinda f@#$!% me. alls well, we'll race again from a roll with no bottle.

Never ran in the 1/4, but my C5 Conv. 50th anniv Vette with A4, ran an 8.7x in the 1/8th, bone stock, and on stock run flats, just some more .02

My 2004 Lightning ran an 8.9x in the 1/8th, just another .02

Regardless it still is impressive to see a 5,000 pound truck (chevy, ford, etc) go faster than most sports cars
