Default Gas Milage

Well, I got word that it is a VERY good possibility that my truck is totalled. I would like to move from an s-10 to a full size. But time is of the essance in finding something new. I've found a 03 sierra locally. 32k on the odometer it is a v-6 and 5 speed. Would love to have a v-8 but I dont know If I can find one quick enough that I like. There are a couple of things that irk me about the truck. it has chrome finder trim, and side marker lights. I was wondering what kind of gas milage the v-6's get. also what are you guys getting with your v-8's?

thanks for the help

Russell

I just went 250 miles round trip on 2 lane roads and I got 21.0mpg 04 5.3 . How much you wantin to spend. I'd love to downgrade to a reg cab.

Yup, how much you looking to spend? I think you would be very disappointed with the v-6 personally. They get about the same, if not worse gas mileage than the v-8's. My fully modded crew cab that I used to have would get 20+ mpg on long trips and still get 17-18 mpg in town. My 06 Z71 4x4 gets 17-18+ mpg in town all day long and I got 22.5 mpg over Christmas driving out of town, this were all with the 5.3 motors. A few weeks ago I was able to get 400 miles out of a tank of gas on my Z71, had never been able to do that before.

If our deal goes through with a new house my girl and I may be needing to unload a truck. She has an 04 GMC Sierra ext. cab with the 5.3 and 3.73 gears that we may be trying to get rid of, she would take the Z71 and I'd be looking for a RCSB 5.3. Just to throw you a hint, depends on your price range. lol.

get a 4.8 V8 if you want gas mileage and just want the "V8." do a search on autotrader because Greenville Chevrolet and the GMC joint post trucks on there. If you look at the eighth digit of the VIN, "X" = V6, "V" = 4.8L, "T" = 5.3L, and I believe "Z" is the flexible fuel 5.3. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's all correct.

Don't even bother with a V6, Ive owned a 4.3L, a 4.8L, a 5.3L, and now i have a 6.0L. The 4.3L got the worse gas mileage out of all of my trucks. My 6.0L gets around 22-23mpg highway and around 16-18 city.

Wow! What rear axle ratio are you running? Is this the truck that got you into the "12 second club?" That is freakin' amazing.

I hope I get better than the 13.2 I am getting during my break in. I have the same engine as you, but bone stock.
