Default Truth about trucks?

From GMI

Fully Boxed Frame
Ford talks about the fully boxed frame. GM has a mostly C channel frame. However, our steel is rated at 40,000 PSI / Ford 36,000 PSI. We use stronger steel. Plus the front of the GM (1/3 of the GM frame) uses fully boxed hydroformed steel

Ford talks about hydroforming the frame. GM did it first and still uses it for the entire front of our frame. Ford doesn't use it on all the frame.

Ford frame increases vehicle weight by 500-600 pounds more than GM.

TOWING
Ford claims to have the highest towing capacity. (9900 pounds )This is true in a regular cab. Try to find one like this on a Ford lot. Hardly anyone drives this type of truck anymore. Look at the crew cabs and the difference is hardly noticable.

GM has the tow haul mode which allows for smoother shifting while towing, better fuel mileage, towing performance and less transmission heat. You can drive in OD with a GM while towing, a Ford you cannot.

The Ford needs the tow/haul package to tow more than 5000 pounds.

SUSPENSION
Ford uses 3 inch leaf springs and outboard mounted shocks. GM leaf springs can hold 200 pounds more in the rear and are only 2.5 inches. The outboard mounted shocks means Ford has to use a more narrow frame than GM. Therefore, are they really more stable?

Bed Bolts
OK, if I'm going to hang my truck upside down from a crane I'll probably go with the Ford. However, that don't make the way Ford attaches the bed to more superior. We also use 6 bolts but ours aren't exposed. Ford have been doing this for years. Why had nobody else copied it? Because those bolts create problems. They cause the bed to corode around the bolt. The bolts snag in cargo. We use a one piece bed design, Ford uses a multi piece design. Therefore, we have less joins in our bed.

Cargo Area/Bed
Ford has a much deeper bed than GM. Some people might like that but I don't think it's gonna help you carry more cargo. It can create more problems if anything. They have a tailgate assist. WE don't have it because we don''t need it. A Ford tailgate is 4 1/4 inches taller than the GM which makes it heavy enough to need assistance not to mention it gets in the way when looking back in tight parking areas. In addition. the rails are so high it makes grabbing cargo from the side impossible at times.

Quiet Steel
The Ford is more quiet. Ford brag about the quiet steel. They need it. The engine sits so far back towards the cab that they need extra sound dampening steel. The real difference is less than 3 db between the interior sound of the Ford than the GM. That's less than the human ear can detect.
Try both trucks back to back and you will not be able to notice the difference.

Here are some more GM wins vs the Ford.

1. GM trucks give you 6 suspension choices, Ford has only 3
2. GM has Autotrack, Ford doesn't ( I use it all winter vs full time 4x4)
3. GM trucks have dual zone climate control. Ford doesn't offer it at all
4. GM trucks give you 4 engine choices, 1 more than Ford
5. GM trucks have G80, rear locking differential. GM can give you total traction to both rear wheels. Ford must divide it. Plus it wears clutches faster.
6. GM engines give you better real life fuel economy
7. Onstar-GM only
8. XM radio-GM only (Canada)
9. Oil life Monitor- GM only

Both trucks are good trucks. Ford does some stuff better but the "Truth about Trucks" don't tell the entire story.

Plus, next year the GMT 900s will add to GM's win list.

You know when people bash our 5.3s for hauling less then a hemi or a triton 5.4?
Well heres the answer for that get the highest engines for each 1500 and get its max towing capacity.

Vortec max 4x4 CCSB= 9900Lbs
Hemi Qcsb 4x4= 8500lbs
Triton 5.4 4x4 Qcsb= 9100lbs
5.3 295hp CCSB = 8400lbs

Its funny we have like -40 tq than dodge and we can haul close to it? The ford is not bad but they got 25tq on us and the Vortec max is in a class of its own. Chevy needs a better advertisement group it would probably outsell the ford it they acctually said this on tv or magazines, Also they would sell better if they had a line saying beat a HEMI, FORD, TITAN and still outtow them CHEVY POWER. The 5.3 is also in a class of its own since dodge ford dosnt have any engines to compete with it and the 4.8 also is ina class of its own.

I'd argue that the main reason Ford claims to sell more pickups than GM is because they have outragiously low fleet pricing. Look at a major construction site or refinery. 80% of the vehicles there are Fords.

Not quite true, Chevy uses a 3 or 5 peice (I forget which) the bed sides (outsides) are replaceable... I know mine was destroyed.
