any of you guys know what the normal boost range is for a 92 7.3l turbo, it has the upgraded banks sidwinder turbo on it and according to the boost gague the truck only puts out 9-10 psi on the boost at wide open throttle, now i dont know what they are rated for but i know that the new ones put out anywhere from 17-30psi, if 9-10 psi is to low, how do you adjust the boost on them things, do you just adjust the lil threaded rod on that vacume actuator or what? i need to know what that thing can run at, this is on a friends farm truck
thanks guys

well if it realy is a '92 then it won't have the PSD in it, but rather the older IDI 7.3 liter, which is a mechanical injection engine.
they had higher compression ratios, and thus lower boost numbers. 15 is very good for an IDI motor. you can turn up the fuel delivery on the pump. but I WOULDN'T DO IT, unless he has a pyrometer.
you can also unhook the wastegate which will help the lower RPM boost numbers, but won't gain anything on top end. you need fuel to make boost.

Dieselrod pretty much said it all. They(IDIs) are a low boost engine, since they have a 21:1 compression ratio, versus the 17.5:1 of the PSDs. you don't want to put too much fuel to it because you will melt the Alum. pistons, and too much boost will blow out the bottom end, as I understand it will go before the top.

Micheal, you found this place too.... glad there is at least one familiar name.
I figured the head gasket would go first from the higher CP's being there 21:1.
