Question Ignition source for guages...

I'm looking to for a good ignition source in the fuse box to wire a pair of autometer guages. (A/F and trans temp)

To what fuse have you guys wired your guage's ignition wire to?

Thanks in advance.

The fuse box on the side of the dash for the 12v full time power and the dimmer switch wire for the cab lights. I bought a little fuse looking gizmo from autozone that plugged into an empty slot in the fuse box, it also has it's own fuse as well. As for the dimmer switch wire you'll need to do a search on that one, I think it was a green wire, but can't be sure.

Thanks. but i need to find a fuse that is hot when the key is set to the run position.

Here is what it says on the instructions that came with the guages...

"Wire to 12V Terminal on Ignition Switch or other switched 12V source."

Anyone else???

I had this same problem. The late models with the body computer mostly work off of contolling with grounds so it is very hard to find hot wires. I tapped into the wires going to the back of my guage cluster. I am running 3 guages off of the power-on and the illumination(dimmer) wire and have had no problems with overloading. I just pulled the guage cluster and used a volt meter to find what I needed.

Does this also apply to the pre 03s?

Im doing this to my brother's 99' Sierra. Wish I was installing the guages on my Silvy though. If its the same as the 03+, I'm gonna have to do it the same way as you did it mjhoward. Do you remember what color was the wire?

btw, nice truck...

You can tap the wires on the cluster too for the 99-02 trucks. I tapped into the wires behind the cd player cause I know my aduio wire colors and it was easier for me. I will be redoing them shortly to tap into the wires on the cluster.

unsure about the 99's. And I don't remember the wire colors. Just use a test meter or even a test light to find out if you have power when accesories are turned on or when your lights are on etc...

If you can't find an ignition hot wire go to the radio you will find it there for sure. When I did my gauges I found my ignition hot, ground and dimmer in the connection panel located by the brake pedal (GM service manual calls it the mid-bus), this the same panel where a trailer brake controller would connect too.

I can't believe I misspelled illumination.
