Default 6.0 swap in an 04 GMC RST

Sup fella's, I own an 04 GMC RST. 4.8 liter w/5-speed. Im wanting to do a gradual 6.0 buildup and swap. Ive heard that all I'll need computer-wise is a custom tune. What transmission would you fella's go with?? Can you fella's help me find some websites with performance 6.0 parts?? Any info is appreciated, thanks fella's.

Yes computer just needs to be retuned. Parts well there are the usual Jegs and such check with some of the sponsors to the right or go to a local speed shop. The trans will work fine with the 6L just upgrade the clutch. My buddy screename Mjhoward on here has/had(blew the motor today lol) 4.8 with 5 speed and he was puttin 470 or so to the ground with 550tq on the stock clutch with a blower cam lts and some other assorted stuff. The 5 speed is a tough trans he is going to a T-56 though for the better OD gear ratio and closer ratios through the other gears.

Basically to drop in a 6.0 is more or less a tune so it runs As for performance parts if it fit on your 4.8... it fits in the 6.0, even cams.

Transmission is a different story. Your 4L60E will hold up to the 6.0L but without some beefing it dont expect it to last forever. GM ships all 6.0L equipped vehicles with the 4L65E a stronger version.

I'd say more... but i had my last final today and i've had to resort to drinking rather than driving since i blew up my transfer case

EDIT: Just realized you got a 5-speed... ignore me

I don't know about a manual, but if you're going to go with an auto, either a 4L65-E, or 4L80-E.

Go ahead and do the T56 swap, b/c u'll want to later and it'll be a lot easier while the engine isnt' in the truck, there's a few guys around here that did 5 to 6-speed swaps and some automatic to 6-speed swaps.

AWESOME news fella's. And the 6.0 will bolt up to the stock 5-speed?? This isnt gonna be as much of a pain as I thought. So my JBA headers and K&N intake will bolt up??? hell yeah. I read once on fullsizechevy that someone makes a T-56 that has an extended linkage so the shifter goes through the stock hole in the NBS trucks. Is this true???

I had the 4.8 (with 5-speed), 6.0 (auto), and 5.3 (auto) in my garage when I did my swap. I noticed that the 4.8 (from the 5-speed) had a longer crank than the 5.3 and the 6.0. I think its because of the trany. The t56 is the way to go, by far. I love it. The best part is I don't hear that dam winning noise anymore. I hated that first gear, too short. Do it all at once 6.0 and the t56, outside of the truck.. You need a good clutch. There is no crossmember modifications on the 5 speed trucks. It goes in easy this way. It should be easy. let me know if you need anymore info. I been there.
