okay so my friend and i just got home- and we were gonna go get some lunch- but when he went to start the durango and its cranking over but its not firing- does anyone know wtf could be happening? We took the positive side off so the ECU can reset but we dont know what to do next. Thanks

My 99 Dakota R/T started running rough and not starting last summer. My friend, a mechanic, hooked a scanner to it and determined it had a bad cam position sensor (the plate in the distributor). Replaced it, about $45 and the problem went away. You may check that out.

Unfortunately this is very true. For reference I had a Dakota that would not start in very cold weather. Turned out to be a bushing in the distributor that shrank and shorted out the spark signal. It had the same symptoms as your buddy. I had to take it to the stealership to get it checked out. No other way these days :(

Ok first you need to determan if it is spark related. have your buddy crank while you hold the plug wire near the plug see if spark. if it is then you know its fuel if no spark them out comes the scanner.. what year is the dodge? cause if you dont have a scanner you can ground out the #1 term in the data port and it will flash a code at you, or if new enough, turn the ignition on and off 3 time it will display the code were the odometer would be.

could be something as easy as a ASD relay (check power at that) or just switch it with the a/c relay they r the same in most cases.
