This the second time #5 cyl got hot and melted the piston on the spray. The first time was on the stock long block. Now I have different heads, cam, intake, and injectors with forged pistons. I'm running a 200hp shot and had no more than 20deg of timing. The header is not discolored and I was running TR6 plugs all but #7 plug look great. #7 electrode is bent to one side like the piston hit it or got hot. It also sound like a rod bearing spun. Any help will be appreciated? I'm pulling the engine tonight and I'll post some pics tomorrow.
It really sucks that I have only 4000 miles on this engine. :bang:

Did you check the actual deck height on each individual cylinder? Maybe, just maybe there was some type of mix-up, and you got one wrong rod, or piston.

Looks like I found a weak spot on the pistons. I'll post pics in the morning

I would say it was detonation. I'll let my engine guy make the final analysis.

Oh god that sucks man. Was that a Raylar built assembly??

That looks familiar. :turd: That sucks. Hope you figure out the cause so it doesn't happen again.

A local guy did the short block. But the pistons are Mahle's that a come from Raylar.

are those forged pistons? i didnt think a forged piston would break like that.

I was told they are.

i really dont know that much about it but i thought a forged piston would melt or bend but not break like that.

My engine guy wasn't impressed with them. Now this has happened nether am I. Might have to get a custom piston made to hold up.

sounds like you may want to check the intake manifold to see if there would be a reason for the fuel to not reach that cylinder as easily as the other 7. we know the nitrous will due to the pressure and temperature of the gas. if the fuel isn't making it's way back to that cylinder though, you're just going to keep eating pistons.

That Looks Just Like My #7 Piston But From 12 O;clock To 9 O:clock

Might check into the JE SRP series they are fairly cheap for what you get and are a very nice and light forged piston thats what Im going with on my 418. Im with Parish I thought a forged piston would distort or just melt down but not chip like that. T me that loks like somethign old POS hypertectic or cast pistons would do. Have seen many of those that look like that and all the toasted forged pistons I have seen have either had a melted hole in the middle or edges were all screwed up.
