I'm going to the local 1/8 track tonight. I've never run before and I haven't watched races in years.
So, are there any unwritten rules I should know about?
Is the lane marked so I know exactly when to shut down?
Whats the best way to launch with my setup?
I have a radix@9#'s and 4.10's/eaton. I am running with the 24's on. My TC is just a tad bigger than stock, I can brake stall it to about 2000rpm before the brakes give out and I start creeping forward. Is there any real benefit to doing this or should I just stomp it when the light goes green? I don't have any traction issues with the 24X10 tires :judge:
I'm sure I will learn real quick watching others run.
Racing my neighbors Ram SRT-10 RC, hope to get it on video  even if I lose, which I will. :eyes:

Do not drive through the water box, drive around it.Do not use the water at all on your tires. Do a small burn out to clean off the tires, no need to smoke up regular radial tires. Stall it up around 1100-1500. Leave on Yellow!!!! If you see green you lost. Practice makes perfect. Have fun :)

Loose the 22" or 24" wheels & tire combo first off. Don't get me wrong, it looks good, but you will "gain" time in your 1/4mi run. (Gaining time means a worse ET, not better). Those tires have hardly no sidewall or sidewall flex. Resulting in no hook-up and excessive spin. The rolling diameter is very big. Your Tahoe will struggle getting up to speed with such big tires & wheels.
At minimum swap a set of 16" wheels on the back with a drag radial tire close to the factory size tire rolling diameter. It can be wider if you want.
Don't think the traction is anything like the streets.
These tracks pavements are designed so that slicks will hook-up.
As stated in the above post, drive around the water trap all together.
Do not even back into it. Just do a dry burnout. A short burnout is recommended for street tires to just clean them off and heat them a little.
A 3 sec burnout is plenty.
If you opt for drag radials, you can back into water trap and pull forward for a decent burnout. Excessive burnouts are not needed. Saves your tires as well.
The rest is all practice and reaction.
Hope this helps you out.
Goodluck!

Neighbor just left for the track. He pulls up and asks, "Why are you washing that piece of shit?" I told him "Since you're gonna have to look at the taillights all night long I figured I could at least clean them" :D Were just BS'in :engarde:

Last chance to answer:
Headlight in/out?
Mirrors folded in or not?
Windows up or doesn't matter?
We're talking about 1/8 mile.

I dont think that will make much of a difference in 1/8 mile, besides, depends on what your intentions are, do you want to see what it is capable of, or do you want to see how it runs the way it is driven all the time. Good Luck and have some fun!

Let me start off by saying
   :bang: :bang: :bang: :bigun2: :bigun2: :(
OK, First time ever to a track while driving and the first time at all in 15 years or so. At this track you cannot drive around the water, the water pit covers the entire entry. So I got wet tires. Didn't do a burn out cause I wasn't sure I even could. Staged. Green light, go. TIRE SPIN! And oh, TRACTION CONTROL kicks in!! Forgot to turn that off. Reach up turn it off and the power comes back. I'm off. Felt like a good run after the start, which sucked. Turn off the track and my engine is vibrating and the SES is blinking its ass of at me. AWESOME!! I dropped an injector during the run. Couldn't figure out which one it was and, the ones I could get to w/o taking things apart weren't the problem. Parked it and watched the races. :gruffy: Still had a good time but I know I could have got a better time if I got a few more runs.

The SRT-10 ran an 11.00 first run but he got it down to 9.4 before the end of the night. We didn’t get to line up. If we had I would have beat him on the first run. :D I got some vids but the quality suck and they aren’t worth posting. Besides it would be June before the optimized.
Nighty night!

So did dropping the injector mess anything up?

Not that I can tell. I drove home, about 45 minutes. Runs like ass at low speed. Runs fine at 70. I've had this happen before. The connectors on the injector get loose and the injector doesn't get the voltage to open. I scanned it when I got home and of course its not telling which injector it is, just that it is an injector. It actaully said Random/Multi Cyl Misfire. P0300 and injector circuit open P0200. I'll be pulling it apart tomorrow.

That sucks hope it runs better for you next time. Time to get those new injectors in there:judge:

I got the fuel pump voltage booster today and I'm hopin for the injectors tomorrow. The problem though is not the injector but the clip on the wiring harness. They suck. Even though they make an adapter I may still solder and heat shrink the new clips to the harness and use the style clips for the new injectors.

Well that just sucks, but isn't that kinda slow for the Dodge? I figured they might would be in a high 8 at least, but oh well. Get it running good and do it again!

next time you might as well just stop and do a burn out to try to get the water off the tires. im sure it will run well into the 9's with those wheels on it.

a burnout in the water pit is designed to be doable for any car, just do a short burnout, let go of brakes but stay on the gas so that you spin it in the dry for a little distance to dry the tires.

My first run with the 'mighty' 4.8 I didn't do a b-out and spun/let off/floored it again. Screwed up the et by about two seconds and the next time the guy said to do one because I screwed-up the traction compound at the line.
Even with the tires mostly dry it would do a easy b-out. And like the guy said, leave on the last yellow, not green. You won't red light.

Ran my Yukon (Grocery Getter) at NPR last night. Buddy talked me into 1/4 pass, and shocked it got below 16s.
R/T ---- .843 (need to leave on yellow... good point guys)
60 ---- 2.366
330 ---- 6.679
1/8 ---- 10.271
MPH ---- 68.62
1000 ---- 13.339
1/4 ---- 15.949
MPH ---- 85.43
I guess that's not bad for a first, bone stock 5.3L '02 Yukon.
