Red face DSM Question

My friend has a '93 Eclispe, 2.0 non turded, 5 speed.
He was telling me that he had read something bout replacing the factory MAf with a LS1 MAF?!? (supposed to be a direct fit?)
Does anyone know anything bout this??
The factory MAF is all kindof messed up on his car, an extreme restriction.

Let me know what yall think?

me neither, i hate front wheel drives. and he asked me bout it. i told him i would ask on here because some guys on here know their stuff.

Thanks though.
i read something today bout it but you have do some tunning though, and splice some wires?

told him to sell it and get a chevy. he said he wanted to make his fast.
i told him to get a life, i mean a chevy. atleast a S-10, they get some decent gas mileage and he can haul his dirtbike around in it.

i dont see why people are stuck on imports??

i like my truck, and im gettin 23mpg in town. cant beat that with a stick..
and i can pull a 6klb trailer pretty easy.
but im tired of them complaining that my truck is faster than their cars, and that i have a V-8, and they love to make them excuses.
I took my spare out, tailgate off, back seat out, my stock cat back off, and passenger headlight out and i had 3/4 tank. then the excuses started flying. "you got ram air and no exhaust"(just because i can crawl under my truck and unbolt my exhaust they got mad, guess they are jealous they cant crawl under their car??) "your truck is lighter"(lighter than what i dont know) " you got computer work"(haha stupid hypercrapper). one they didnt say anything about was that after all that weight reduction i would spin through 1st, then it would hook and gooo, they did get the jump on me, until i started feathering it.

but thats how it goes around here, just a 1/2 ton truck leavin imports in white smoke.

if the diamater of the intake is compatiable with the ls1 maf, than ya it will fit.. but what about the electronics? I doubt if the Eclipse will plug right into the ls1 maf... if it does than thats really weird.

thats what i was told. they have the same connector. and i think that the intake tubing is 3"? im not sure on the DSM? my friend bought a cheap intake off of ebay....
well yall know how that goes. the tube and some of the couplings fit, but in the kit he got it had a cheap filter, but if you guys aint see the MAF on a 93 eclispe you dont know what im talkin bout. ill get a pic tonight and see if i can post it up. HORRBILE!!
there is no way the filter will fit the MAF.

if you lived closer i would let you ride with me for a week, and prove it to you.
its in town not city, there is a big difference!! around here a stop sign pretty much means yield. if you keep your momentum up and dont come to a complete stop, then ease on the gas. you can get some really good gas mileage. and i never get over 1500rpms (most shifts are at 1300ish rpms), and no need to get over 45-50mph around here, takes bout a week and a half to run out a 1/2 tank. im not in a hurry so i take my time and save my money. it does get boring though! but hey at least i can say i get 23mpg in a ECSB 5.3 in town.... wonder if a tune from jesse will help out??

when i do drive it hard around here i usually get about 17-18ish mpg.

the worst i have ever gotten was 14.7mpg and that was pullin a 16' tandem axle trailer with 5 i think could have been 6? 4x4 honda atvs. it was something like 20ish miles to my friends house and i had towhaul on and runnin it up the rpms in 2nd then gettin to the brakes hard through some curves and hills.

why is that so hard to believe?? just wondering?
maybe i have a FREAK truck or something!!!! haha

Here's what a Friend told me.

only the Turbo ones can
Its called a GM MAFT
its a box
that changes the signal from a kharman signal to the one a GM MAFs uses, It also allows you to tune idle, low, half adn full throtle fuel conditions.
Heres a pic of one i have in front of me

they enable you to run a blow through setup in the upper intercooler pipe by the throttle body so you can tune better, less restriction and allow you to vent the BOV to the atmosphere

Thats what I was going to say when I started reading the thread but you beat me to it. My friend "Turbo Joe" had better luck running the stock computer with a GM MAFT then with a AEM engine management. And that was on a single turbo 700hp Stealth.

The conversion on a non-turbo car is pointless. Its a waste of money. In fact doing ANYTHING to a non-turbo Eclipse is pointless. But, that being said you can get the translator from our sponsors.
