so i WAS set on 35" BFG tires and a 3" Bodylift...but now after hearing 01 Thunders idling in his 4.8 im SOLD on making it faster.
could someone compare teh 4.8 adn 6.0 for me?
i do plan on forced induction from a supercharger(not right away but in the future).
does the 5spd from the 4.8 fit the 6.0...and if it does could it hold the power with a tune/cam/headers? if i upgrade the clutch would it work?
try and sway me to stick with the 4.8 or swap to the 6.0.
im gonna have about $1k - $1500 in a month to throw at my truck. give me some suggestions...CAM the hell out of the 4.8 or swap to a 6.0 and cam that? remember i plan on a supercharger later down the road.

1500 would get oyu a good 6L in your truck if you do ALL the work yourself. I would do that simply for the fact that later on you can add a cam and the 6L will give you more power mod for mod thats why Im getting one instead of rebuilding the 5.3. 1500 would get you a cam and lt headers since you are 4wd and would get oyu about the same results as switching to a 6L but you will be nearing the full potential of the little 4.8 but with the 6L you still have alot of power left to pull out of it. 6L route would be the best IMO.

I second the 6liter vote...Great engine for fair amount of abuse...
You might even be able to find a good used cam in the for sale section. Something in the 220-225ish area would run well and have a decent lope.

Cam it, spray it, tune it if you don't wanna go through the motor swap. I plan on goin to the 6.0, but only when the 4.8 quits on me. I don't really like pulling motors out unless they're running really horribly bad, i drive em til they die, then upgrade.

It really depends on how far you want to go with this. A cammed SC 4.8 is no slouch and you will be very happy with that setup but that same setup with a LQ4(6.0L) would be pretty nasty and noticably more powerful. Again it depends on what your going after. If you want to get more power NOW then keep the 4.8 and get headers, converter, and a tune. That will definitly give you your fix and then start saving money for a lq4 and SC/TC becuase all of those parts I said to get now for the 4.8 will be needed and will work with the 6.0 .

NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT. Get the 6.0. Like everyone else said, mod for mod, you will end up with a lot more. A buddy of mine went 15.?? in his 4.8, swapped in a bone stock LQ9 (I know youre wanting LQ4) and with the stock 4.8 tune was running 14.5. Now with it tuned for the 6.0 he's in the 13's. Still hasnt done anything to the motor. After its cammed heads etc, it will deffinatly be a beast. Besides, lifted trucks get to be a PITA. I had 10" on one not too long ago, and was wanting to take 4" off. Just my .02

i was thinking about just getting a cam and headers now, than when i buy a 6L i can swap it over but i think the cam would be to small. thought about goin with the TR224 cam and Thorley Tri-Y headers. would the TR224 be to small for the 6L?

Thats the cam I want, but I'll probably stick with my "special" 218/224 cam I have now if it can be salvaged. If not I may go with a stealtier TR220 or similar.

I still think you would see more gains from the stock LQ4 than you would from the cam/headers on the 4.8
