TXsilverado 09-14-2005, 05:24 PM I'm glad you posted this, I was gonna ask the same thing. I also want a nice lope, and am having a 4000 Vig Stall put in. big ass stall...you mean 3000 right? JoSeY 09-14-2005, 05:36 PM big ass stall...you mean 3000 right? No, I've never had anything less than 4400 5 disc Vigi's in my Fbodies...You can get them to keep it a little tight, but the 4000 5disc Vig is one badass Converter. bluecajun5.3 09-14-2005, 07:38 PM i'd say start with the comp 212/218 .522/.529 or 216/220 .525/.532. they seem to be a good all aroud cam with a 2600 stall. JoSeY 09-14-2005, 10:03 PM i'd say start with the comp 212/218 .522/.529 or 216/220 .525/.532. they seem to be a good all aroud cam with a 2600 stall. What's the PV clearance on these motors? MTI's OLD MAN Cam might be a good Idea, just gotta check the lift. I want a mild lope but dont have money for tuning really. But i also want good low end performance. Help me out. no money for a tune and a mild lope with good power. 2000 LS1 corvette cam 198/209 0.500/0.500 LSA 115.5 right now in your 4.8 is 191/190 0.457/0.466 LSA 114, you should not have to change the springs or need a tune to use the corvette cam, just slap it in and go, should give you good low end torque with a better top end until you have the money for a bigger cam, a spring swap and a tune. JoSeY 09-15-2005, 03:11 AM well shit :eek2: with that stall.. go for the tr224/224 .563/.563 114lsa I hate that cam, idles like shit and has an anemic weak ass lope... I had it in my formula for less than a week and traded it out for an X1 SSlow 4.8 09-15-2005, 08:22 AM I hate that cam, idles like shit and has an anemic weak ass lope... I had it in my formula for less than a week and traded it out for an X1 maybe you had a diseased cam jk... i gotta get some clips of my truck up on the net... its sounds pretty bad ass and it idles great in my little 4.8. Good luck on finding a cam. I had it in my formula for less than a week and traded it out for an X1 The TR224 cam is a whole different animal in a 4.8 than in your Firebird. The lope is nasty, it really depends on what LSA you got it with though. JoSeY 09-15-2005, 01:45 PM The TR224 cam is a whole different animal in a 4.8 than in your Firebird. The lope is nasty, it really depends on what LSA you got it with though. Thats a very true observation. I didn't even think about the smaller cubes actually causing sum rumble from the cam. LSA would DEF. need to be on a 112 or so... TurboGibbs 09-19-2005, 09:39 AM just for reference; the cam I have in my sig requires a tune. Doesn't like to stay running when coming to a stop. Nice choppy idle though. It's the same as the "trucker" cam but with 114 lsep instead of 115 of the trucker. So you would definately want to go with something smaller. Z284thgen 10-07-2005, 10:14 PM my 222/224 cam needed a tune as well its gonna get backed with a ssf3500 when i get back in town Pjstucn 10-16-2005, 03:14 AM my 222/224 cam needed a tune as well its gonna get backed with a ssf3500 when i get back in town U have any vac. issues with that cam? also u have UPD in ur sig. whats that? jerome 10-16-2005, 10:31 AM thats just a intake Z284thgen 10-17-2005, 09:13 PM U have any vac. issues with that cam? also u have UPD in ur sig. whats that? no brake issues so far from lack of vac gonna be installing a 224/224 xer cam when i get back in town and pulling the 222/224 shelf cam Scrapin'4.8 10-17-2005, 09:24 PM not tryin to steal the thread, but do most mail order tunes take care of the "tuning" or does it HAVE to be dyno tuned? Also, what's the biggest cam you can put in the 4.8 and still use stock valvetrain???? Z284thgen 10-17-2005, 09:29 PM ohhhh UPD is the CAI i got on the truck http://www.ultimatepd.com/ Z284thgen 10-17-2005, 09:32 PM not tryin to steal the thread, but do most mail order tunes take care of the "tuning" or does it HAVE to be dyno tuned? TurboGibbs 02-14-2006, 06:11 AM The fastest truck list says #106 FTL (http://www.performancetrucks.net/forums/showthread.php?t=355337) DominionsCowboy 02-24-2006, 12:08 AM so a stock corvette cam will work and be ok without a tune for a while? i have a 4.8 and was wondering the same thing on the whole cam question. FarmerBeau 02-24-2006, 12:18 AM i think its only the 01 z06 cam that can run without a tune. If im wrong lemme know but i pretty sure.
