Default STS Help appreciated

Hey guys I already have a post in the general engine thread, (New to chevys, help with STS) But I just got off the phone with my nearest STS dealer and I talked to the VP of sales at STS. Neither of them could tell me what engine 4.8, 5.3, or 6.0 would react best to 5psi. This is on the 99's. Does anyone know the 1/4 time differences of a 4.8 STS at 5psi vs a 5.3 STS at 5 psi vs a 6.0 STS at 5psi? To make it even have the 4.8 and the 5.3 be RCSB and the 6.0 be a RCLB(there isnt a RCSB with the 6.0 and the 4l80e tranny, right?). Probably all 4x4 also. But how much difference would the 2x4 make with the less weight?

I was also kicking around the idea of a 97 5.7 RCSB or RCLB 4x4 and doing the 99 and up kit since the David at STS said it would work with some minor intake modifications on the pipes. This would save me alot of money to be able to go to an older truck, any thoughts on this? How does the 5.7 do with the STS kit? Any experience.

I know its alot of questions But I really appreciate the help, This new truck might happen pretty quick and I want to have all my mods lined up.

P.S. If its easier to find times of trucks like I listed, But with a few more mods, that would be good too, Im considering doing a cam and a stall at the same time as the turbo.

Thanks alot guys

Do you have anymore info on that truck? Was it a 6.0 swap and did he do the universal STS kit or what? Thanks Jerry

Yes it was a 6.0 swap. Allen is a sponsor (Nelson Performance) on this site and is also a STS dealer. Give him a call. He can answer all your Questions. He's also a great Tuner

yea he had a 5.7 in tha truck and wiped out #7 piston then put the 6.0 in there.i was in the lane next to him when he ran the 11.9..as far as which motor in which trucks i think the 5.3 with the 60 or 65e tranny and sts are fast fast...if you want reliabality go with the 6.0 and 80e tranny swap...you can get complete pullouts from allens site at ls1truck.com
by the way..he is the prefered tuner for sts also

It's not that 1 motor is going to react better to boost than the other. The problem is finding the biggest motor you can in the truck you want.

The only thing that the 6.0Ls come in are heavy trucks unless you get one of the new 06' trucks.

IMO the fastest option would be to get a 5.3L RCSB and plan on upgrading the trans to a 4L80E later. The 5.3L when done right can put down some means #s, especially when put into a light weight body AND you'll get better gas milage than you would on a bigger heavier truck.

Well the dealer I was talking to actually drove down to my work to talk to me about getting the STS kit. And he took me for a ride in his STS turboed Firebird, My god is that insane. I was not expecting the ride to be like that, it feels like your taking off in a jet, just a consistent hard pull. I think I will be looking for a 99 RCSB 2x4 in 4.8 or 5.3, I dont know if I could afford the 2500 with the 6.0 and the 80 tranny, the 4x4 ups the price too much.

Anybody know the ballpark $$ for a 99 silverado or Sierra with the 4.8 or 5.3, preferably miles under 80k. It wuld probably be a 2x4 but throw a 4x4 in there for comparison, Just to give me an idea.

Here in Cali (higher prices) I bought an 02' RCSB 4.8L 2wd with 96k miles. LS trim and the body was in great shape but had ugly stock wheels and chrome fender trim. I got it for $12k. I would think you could get a 99+ for much cheaper. Jyst remember that the 99' PCM will have to be swapped out when you go to tune it because they were pieces of crap. lol
