I am going to be doing my 6L swap soon and am wondering just how high I can spin it. I will of course have a cam, pushrods and valvesprings to handle the rpm just wondering what the bottom end can take.

View Full Version : Maximum rpm with an lq4 with arp rod bolts 1slow01Z71 08-04-2005, 11:40 AM I am going to be doing my 6L swap soon and am wondering just how high I can spin it. I will of course have a cam, pushrods and valvesprings to handle the rpm just wondering what the bottom end can take. Fogle07 08-04-2005, 11:55 AM id turn it 6500 1slow01Z71 08-04-2005, 12:42 PM Im thinkin 6800-6900 should be safe Im sure someone will step in and tell me. I think I could spin it past 6500 safely. BLK6.0HD spun his up to 7300 without the rod bolts and sprayed a 250 shot on it and didnt blow it. Fogle07 08-04-2005, 12:59 PM thats alot of nitrous. ill bet that was fun. i would only turn it till the cam stops pulling. my cam feels like it will never stop pulling but i shift at like 6100 12sec.5.3 08-04-2005, 01:02 PM I'll be swapping to my lq9 with rodbolts, cam, pushrods, and valvesprings pretty soon and plan on shifting about 6500-6600. I would put some rod bolts in there. It could save you alot of cash in the long run. 1slow01Z71 08-04-2005, 01:11 PM Thats what I said in the title Im going to put arp rod bolts in it. Yes the shifts points will maximize the hp curve of the cam but I can select a cam too based on how high I can spin the engine up to. white1 08-04-2005, 01:12 PM Spin it till the valves float, then back off 50 rpm   I'd like to see 7000 when/if I build my 408, but havent really checked in to it yet. I guess it depends on how well the internals are ballanced, and how well the short block is built, and of course your valvetrain. I would think a built short block would be able to handle 7000 safe. I spin my stock 105k mile 5.3 with cam, and springs to 6500, and (knocks on wood) have yet to have a problem. deposited. slowprocess 08-04-2005, 05:40 PM I'm running mine up to 6500 now. I'm actually not sure if its helping me that much over my previous 6300 shifts because of my recent times, but then again it is stupid hot right now..... storm5.3 08-04-2005, 09:04 PM Cammed and springed 5.3 here and running it to 6600 almost daily...oh yeah w/ 189,000 on it... :eek2: moregrip 08-05-2005, 10:38 PM Cammed and springed 5.3 here and running it to 6600 almost daily...oh yeah w/ 189,000 on it... :eek2: thats what I like to hear! :judge: speedz06 08-14-2005, 08:48 AM It depends more ,of course,on what your valve springs/valvetrain will allow-that is usaally the deciding factor on most engines.Firstly, where does your power start to drop off?If it starts to drop off at 6500rpm you dont need to go much higher than that,IMO.also at what RPM do you start to get valve float?Look at these factors as well as others when deciding a max rpm for your engine.Todd litreddevil 08-21-2005, 08:33 PM Went To The Track For First Time Friday 19 And I Builded My Motor Ground Up And The Bottom End Was Builded Over A Year Ago. And I Hit My 7400 High Rev A Few Time In First Gear It Is Hard To Caught It With 4.56 Gears And A 10" Verter. YOU WILL BE FINE @ 6900 TO 7000 |
