Whats up guys, i had my first experience at the track/ i took three runs.
The conditions were
95*
Very Humid
Elv. 3000 ft (Las Vegas)
With a low pressure system over the valley

My fastest time was 16.495. I was supprised that i didnt go faster. All i have is an intake and exhaust. I even removed the spare and my passenger headlight to try and drop some tenths. i lost to one of those turbo grand nationals. he ran a 15.276. however on the other two runs i raced a new eclipse he had a 4 cylinder with header, full exhaust, custom downpipe, stage three clutch and intake. he only ran 17.8. That was cool but I was dissapointed because we didnt get to run with the tree. they had a frekin stop light instead. heres all of the times...

r/t .732
60' 2.547
330 7.040
1/8 10.719
mph 67.29
1000 13.848
1/4 16.495
mph 84.75

Do you guys thinks this is a good time for my first experience?? does a better reaction time lower your overall time? How much difference will it make if i ran in the winter? ohh and the big one, how fast could i get with the westers 87/91 tune??

i had absolutely no wheel spin however, i did manually shift with the lever with tow haul on which allowed me to shift at a higher rpm but i noticed that my 60' times were slower. but i gained it back by taking second gear close to 5800 which made a 3-4 mph difference in the end. the reason i did that was because when i took my first run i was 5 tenths slower than when i manually shifted. and we all know that just racin with tow haul on lowers the shift points but increases line preasure. with that being said doing this cant be good for the tranny. thats why i am not going to make any more runs until i get my tune. hopefully the tune will take care of shift points. i think the humidity was around 40-50% Any feedback and tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys

Mike

Ohh my mods are

02 ecsb silverado
AEM BF intake
Flowmaster 50s

Everything else is stock

Is this a 5.3 or a 4.8? If its a 5.3, cold weather might bring 15s. I would suggest a hooker or magnaflow{yes they flow that much better} $80 and a wait4me tune.$75 throttle body bypass $3 . corvette servo.$15. Weight reduction $0 : spare headlight, tailgate, sway bar, unused seats, floor mats ,and low on gas .These are the cheapest things to push down your times.

reaction time won't affect your e.t. because the clocks don't start until you roll out of the staging beams, so you can have a 2 second r.t. or a perfect .500/.000 r.t and the e.t won't change.

I'm not sure how '02 times stack up vs a later gen, but my bone-stock times are in my sig. I've always been told to not manually shift an electronic auto (4L60E in my Formula or the 4L80E in the truck, so I make all my runs in 3rd or drive). I also wouldn't think to use tow mode either.

The running the vehicle lower on gas helps b/c each gallon of gas weighs about 6.5 lbs, so that could easily be 100 or more pounds lighter/heavier.

Good luck!

Well given your track conditions and alt, plugging in those numbers into a calculator that takes weather conditions into account your run is more like a 15.5@90mph. Weather and elevation play a huge part in good track times.

Dunno 'bout those calculators. In the real world, my 5.3 Whippled Tahoe ran 15.1 at 91.5 mph at 85'. I sincerely doubt that your stock 5.3 is going to run 15.5.

The calculator I use is at http://www.smokemup.com/auto_math/corr_dew_point.php

You'll need to make an account.

I had a friend in a 98 colbra do some alt tests a couple years back, ran at Mission Raceway in Vancouver BC, alt was 100feet, he ran a 14.2, he then came up to visit me in Edmonton and we ran at Budpark, alt 2200, and he could only muster a 14.8. Obviously these calculators aren't going to be 100% accurate, but the more variables you can enter the more accurate they will be.

As for a 5.3L running mid 15's, shrug, if my hemi runs a 15.1 stock, then a ecsb 5.3L chevy (which weighs about as much as my rcsb ram) with 60hp less should be able to luster a mid 15 second 1/4mile.

I ran a 16.3 with headers and CAI......

So I think that time is pretty much right on....

I put a comp cam, springs, pushrods, Custom tune, 4.10's and a few other mods...

Ran a best of 15.09@93.7

New mods
installed: Whipple Charger @ 6lbs, Throttle body bypass, 160 thermostat.

Waiting for install: TCI 3000 Stall, Nitto Drag Radials.....

Hoping with the new mods..... a high to mid 13 second pass....@ 102+

good times. I ran a 15.7 @ 4000ft up here in fallon. With the DA level there, thats respectable. Its hard to run good times in Nevada.

hey villain, how are you getting such low times on your stock truck? i have headers, intake, exhaust, and just ran a 16.24 at 150' elevation 70*F. some insight on how you launch maybe? or do you just ahave a freakishly fast truck. i have same as you...3.73 gears, 5.3l, ecsb 2004. 4x4...do you have 2x4? i wish mine would run that quickly

2 wheel drive, as mentioned, bone stock. It ran 15.70's at 84 mph when I first took her down the strip in '04 in august air (probably close to 2500-3000 DA). This time to help reaction times, I launched anywhere from 1200-1500 rpm. I could possibly have a freak, but I don't have anything to compare it to around here to know for sure.

Full slip looked like this (on a 1300 rpm launch):
2.283-60 foot
6.473-330 foot
9.958-1/8 mile
71.08-1/8 mph
12.967-1000 foot
15.575-1/4
85.91-trap speed

Thanks Jerome! I'm hoping to take it back out later this year in better air to see if I can't get some 15.40's out of it before the modding begins....

Your MPH looks fine for the DA. Your ET is pretty bad overall but that is just a function of that 2.5 60'.

Villan, there doesn't appear to be anything freakish about your truck. Look at your 60' compared to most peoples. Its pretty low for a bone stock ECSB truck. Your MPH is basically the same as everyone elses which means should you two race from a roll the outcome would likely be whoever mashed it and got their truck to downshift first. :)

In all you have to be very careful when using DA calculations to figure out what you "should" have ran. It doesn't always pan out like that. The DA shifted about 800-1,000 ft. last week at my track and I only shifted .5 mph.. Definately not 5mph. Then again I was only at a high of 2,400 ft and a low of 1,500ft ABSL. You guys are talking potentially 3,000+ft. ABSL. :eek2:
