ok, maybe a dumb question...but how do you set the idle speed? ive got a 2000 silverado 5.3. is it done by the computer or is there a set screw on the TB? im lazy, havnt even looked at the thing, lol. thanks, CHIP

 

The PCM controls idle speed...you can change/adjust it with the proper software I believe that messing with the set screw will throw off the TPS.

you can drill the hole thats in your t/b blade but have someone tune it for you the safe way. ? is it idling to low? you might need to clean the t/b and iac, with the iac use a soft towel and no chemicals just wipe it clean from the build up.

 

The Idle Air Control valve (IAC referred to by v8) controls the idle....it is adjusted through the PCM program. If you are looking at the engine from the front, it is the thing that is attached to the top right of the throttle body, has a wiring harness coming out of it. The TPS is below it. I used a carb/throttle body cleaner on mine, seemed to do a good job.

 

If you drill your TB blade the PCM will learn over time and compensate for it.

 

thanks fellas. im not having any trouble w/ my truck, i was just thinking that after i got my cam i might want to play around w/ the idle speed to get it to sound like i want it too.

im planning on doing the cam swap and a new tune at the same time. guess maybe i should wait until after the cam is in to see about where i want it to idle so i can tell the guy that tunes the computer for me huh?
