Are there any stand-alone harnesses made for retrofitting a new L setup into an older pickup? I've always wanted to build a 67-72 F100--my dad had one when I was a kid, and I cried the day he sold it. I was like 7 or 8, gimme a break. :)

I'm sure that there's plenty of room in the old Effie's engine bay, just didn't know about wiring, engine management, etc. Any thoughts?

I have seen it done a few times. Your best bet would be to find an engine/harness combo and use that. I have heard that there are a few companies working on a harness for those, but none have stepped up.

It will have to be custom made...if you have the skills and the time to switch everything to electronics...go for it. If I where you I'd get a wrecked L(expensive I know) and use the parts you need and the ones you don't sale...that's the best way to do these type of swaps. I thought about doing that w/my 2002 f150 v6, but after noticing that it was going to cost over 6k to do it all I backed out. The wiring is the hardest part....if you do decide to do it keep us informed.

My buddy is driving to Tampa tomorrow to take a look at the truck that I'm interested in. He might buy it while he's out there. If he does, I might be able to pick it up from him later on down the road. It's a 72 SWB fleetside w/ a 460 BB in it now. It looks really clean, and is only $1800. I just hope and pray that he buys it and decides that the I-beam front end is too much hassle and I can pick it up from him a few months down the road for cheap.

one thing to think about is you will need the fuel system as well.

Oh, I would definitely get rid of the in-cab fuel tank that's mounted behind the seats! A fuel cell w/ a new fuel pump would be on the list for sure.

Scream, Tis a pimp idea but will be VERY costly. Reason I say this is because you will have to get all the mounting bracketry custom made. Remember, the mod motors take up as much room as a big block, maybe more. Coome to think of it, do you know about the 99 L that Tony put the 514 in?? Well, that conversion was in the 20k range and that was going from fuel injected to carbuerated!!! Gettin all the brackets and everything else to fit was alot of the expense. I know you can shave alot of that by doing it yourself but it's not going to be easy! Then again, nothing worth having ever is easy! Let me know if you ever decide to do it. I want to be a part of it!!!!
