Well things change at GM very frequently, and here is a very good example of that. One month ago, GMI reported that GM was supposedly using the Atlas I-5 Engine in their next generation of Full-Size pickups. A source within GMI has told us now that this was never really the case. The I-5 information was correct at the time it was received by GMI, however things change rapidly and it is now clear that the GMT-900 pickups will receive the Atlas 6 standard. It will likely have a power output of 290HP with 300lb/ft of torque. Optional engines will include the 4.8L V8 with 300HP and 335 lb/ft of torque, the 4.8L will be available in the Regular Cab and standard in the Extended Cab. The 5.3L Vortec will also carry on, but with some new muscle. The power numbers for the new 5.3L Vortec will be 355HP and 380lb/ft of torque. The L33 version of the 5.3L V8 will have 370HP and 385lb/ft of torque and will only be available in Crew Cab models. The 6.0L Vortec will jump in power to 400HP and 400lb/ft of torque, as reported to you by GMI in March. The LQ9 version of the Vortec 6000 will put out 435HP and 440lb/ft of torque. The 8.1 will return with extra power as well increasing HP from 330 to 375 and pumping up torque from 450 to an amazing 480! To top it all off, the Duramax 6600 will increase power from 310HP and 605lb/ft of torque, to 345HP and an earth shattering 630lb/ft.

Sounds great, but I'm not holding my breath. With gas prices continuing their upward trend, I would be surprised to see it happen.
