Need help with LS1 fans
#1
Thanks in advance for your help. How do you get the engine fan off? The pulley is slipping when I use a big wrench. Where would you hook up the 12v ignition key on hot wire (not the temperature wire)? Also is there supposed to be a 1-2 inch gap on each side (left and right) of the fans to the radiator? One more thing, are the plugs on the bottom of the fans, or do I have them upsidedown? Oh yeah this is most important, which prong on the fans is for the positive wire and which for the negative? (I bought the Hayden dual fan wire harness) Thanks so much, I really appreciate all your help, sorry if I seem dumb.

i can help you with one of your questions, to get the stock fan off i just put that big *** wrench on there and hit it a few time with a hammer, comes right off.

Another way to remove the fan is to clamp vice grips on the waterpump pulley from the back side and remove with a large wrench. My fans were LT-1 so I don't know if they different but...
I installed plugs down for asthetic reasons, if they are hooked up backwards they push instead of pull (just reverse plugs), mine fit flush against the radiator (might require trimming a tab or two on the shroud.

here is what I did. I used a bot thru one of the holes in the pulley, then I used a long wrench to brace it aginst the frame. See if that will help.

I did it the same way Fast4.8 did it. Came right off. Nice pic Greg. Makes it easy to explain.
Yes, there is a 1"-2" gap on the side of the fans.
Not sure about your wiring. I just used 2 inline fuses and 2 relays and 2 toggles in the cab so I could turn them on or off at will.
Check my sig for some ghetto pics of my setup
Good Luck

Here are a few pics that may help you out: http://www2.netdoor.com/~kdouglas/fans
There is also a schematic of how mine are wired up. I cant remember what polarity the plugs are but just use trial/error. You got a 50/50 chance of getting it right the first time though. To get the clutch fan off, I used a strap wrench to keep it from slipping them whacked it with a hammer a few times and it broke loose. Remember, it is a right handed thread unlike the fans of old that were opposite of a reg nut/bolt.
