Default 160 thermostat

I was in O'reilly's yesterday and saw 160 stats for 2.99. The guy that helped me, said the thermostat would fit my truck because they (chevrolet 5.7 & 5.3) are the same. Anyone know is this guy is right. There was know part number for it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

That guy is right (in a way that he doesn't know) and is wrong about what he told you. He is way off on the price. Expect to pay $40+ for a 99+ 4.8/5.3 T-stat. The 5.7 and 5.3 truck engines are completly differant. The 5.7 LT1 base was no longer offered in the 99+ truck and 00+ SUV's. The 98+ 5.7 LS1 F-body and and 5.3 use the same T-stat. The T-stat for these motors are in a 1 piece housing that the radiator hose goes on, not the older style disc that slips between the block and housing.

I just got the Hypertech 160 and installed it on my truck two days ago. I purchased it from Tbyrne for $49.99 the only problem I had with them was the $18.00 shipping charge I got to send it here (One of the pain in the *** things about living in Alaska). The thermostat is part of the housing, complete as a unit. The installation took me about an hour. I had problems taking the radiator hose off of the stock housing. There seemed to be some sort of glue that they had put on the hose to make it stay on better. With the 160 in and stock fan I run right between 175 and 180 degrees.

The T-Stat shouldn't void the warranty at all. However, back when I was still in warranty, I did re-program with the HPPIII back to stock just in case. Depending on the reason for it going in.
