Default Twin or Single Turbo kit for the 8.1 liter?

I'm just curious if anyone has done any work on creating a Turbo kit for the 8.1 liter?

I don't want a supercharger since it only tends to make the exhaust louder. The Turbos keep the cops from buggin me when I hit it. Plus they give lots of power for towing too.

I wonder what 6lbs and a T76 would do on the little motor?

I like the idea of a turbo over a supercharger too but the exhaust doesn't get any louder on a supercharged truck unless you change the exhaust. i have been keeping my eyes open for awhile and haven't seen any hints for a turbo set up for any of our trucks.

if you want a turbo kit for these trucks as of now your pretty much going to have to go custom.

one thing im wondering is if a t76 is a good turbo for a 5.7L wouldnt it be too small for something as big as an 8.1L??? i thought if you used the same turbo with more cid it would spool quicker but would make less power??? but then again, i could be completely wrong...

I have a Whipple on an 8.1L and it doesn't effect the exhaust unless you really wind it up, which isn't real cool to do if a cop is beside you.

Well now I have an ATR exhaust on my Twin turbo TA. The car is pretty quiet even when I hit it. Before the Turbos is was rediculous!!!!! Cops stared at me at idle. Now they don't notice me.

So in order to get all the ponies out of your motor you need a nice free flowing exhaust. But if you do that with a Supercharger you'll just be a cop magnet. But with the Turbos (which act as a muffler of sort) they are nice and quiet.

Well anyway that's the way I see it.

Now as to the size of the Turbo.....I think a T76 would be a nice size turbo for the 8.1 liter. Yeah you could go bigger for sure. But what for? I'm not looking to go MAX boost just add maybe 6-7 lbs. Believe me that'll be enough HP on the beast to freak you out.

Well that's my 2 cents. I certainly welcome other thoughts.

For towing with a gas motor, I'd stick with a S/C over a turbo any day especially with an automatic transmission. I'd be too concerned about the heat and running it too lean especially under heavy load I.E. trailers.
