i have a 4x4 with the stock 265's and the standard aluminum rims. my tires are prety bald and i am wondering if there is performance to be gained with diferent tires or even rims.
no idea what the stock ones weigh but they look very heavy, the truck would look silly with tires that were too small unless i droped it a little, what about those 18's or 20's that people are doing, they look lighter, are they?
i have been told that whatever weight you save on your wheels you can basicly double to figure what your performance increase would be and that each 100lb is worth about 1/10th. that being said if i could save 50lbs on rims and tires i would see about 1/10th better time. this doesn't even count the lower gear ratio if the tires are shorter. what do you all think?
oh yea, i have to run it in auto4wd now to get good traction so traction isn't really a concern i doubt i could turn over 4 tires of any kind for very far.

I was gonna say yes until I saw 4x4. But really they can work on a 4x4 also, just not like I was going to say. The weight savings would be a plus. 18's or 20's on a 4x4, not my first choice. 18's would be my limit on a 4x4. A size difference won't make a differance in weight. There are so many types of wheels to pick from and they all weigh different. basically, you need to weigh what you gat and add 1 to 2 lbs for wear and then go shopping. IMO the bigger the wheel over 18", the lower the truck needs to be. But that is my opinion.

if you want speed do not install 20's on your truck. it feels like your pulling a boat. i was very upset when i installed mine. i am sure that a different set of rims and tires can make a vehicle faster. however, i know a wrong set can make a vehicle slower. i have 275/45r20s.
