I've asked and searched for the answer to this, but i always get different answers. What kind of harness do i need to wire up my Pioneer DEH-P8MP (i know the model probably doesnt matter) to my 03 Silverado.

It doesn't have Onstar or Bose, but it does have a Factory XM. I noticed it has 2 plugs + the antennae going into the back of it.

I had 1 shop tell me that i can swap them out, but ill need to keep the fact. HU wired up in the truck behind the seat.

Another shop told me that ill need an $80 harness so that ill still have a door chime (which i dont have )

Best Buy sold me a generic 98+chevrolet harness for $18, will it work? what is the other plug for?

Try the generic harness... that model pioneer is what type of hu? Is it a touch screen or something special like that?

"Crutchfield cannot provide a free wiring harness for your vehicle, and we strongly recommend that you use the recommended adapter when replacing this vehicle's factory radio. Failure to do so may result in serious injury or death. "

Are they threatening me???!!!!

Go to circuit city or best buy or whatever and tell them you need a cd player harness for an aftermarket cd player for a 03-05 Chevy Silverado... I think when I bought my harness it said the year make and model on the bag.. idk if that really matters, but just specify it with them, to save you a few trips.

theres a data bus line through the radio- without the factory HU, you loose all chimes and warning tones. As for keeping your factory XM, I don't know.

thanks for the info...I bought the truck used and i noticed that it doesn't have any chimes or warning noises, but that plug on the back of the radio is plugged in...i wonder if there is another way to disable the chimes

The chimes and such are only an issue if you have an RDS radio, my 03 S10 had a RDS radio, so i bought the expensive harness and had to hide my factory HU, then i bought the 04 Sierra, and used the same harness, but since my Sierra isn't RDS i didn't need the added harness on the kit, so i cut that bastard off, and my chimes still work fine, kinda bummed me out when i saw that 4 or 5 wires and 1 more plug doubled the cost of the damn harness, oh well, live and learn. Oh, BTW the radio shouldn't matter, but mine is a Pioneer, and it never came unplugged from the harness, just swapped from truck to truck.

If your door chimes come through your drivers front speaker(which most 03 and newer trucks do) you need to buy the harness that relocates the stereo in the vehicle. We have it at bestbuy for $60 something, you need a kit $18.50 and an GM antenna adapter $11.50.

Basically the expensive harness retains the factory door chime and has a built in switch wire so you do not have to find one. You however DO NOT have to buy this expensive harness. The only part numbers i know are Metra.. but the Metra 802003 is the cheap harness but you wont have door chime and will have to find a switched wire... the expensive harness is Metra GMRC01.. Good luck on your search. Oh yea no need to relocate the stereo any where exept the trash can...

so there's no way for me to get rid of my fact. head unit completely??

For some reason my front door speakers have never worked anyway, i guess that's why there isnt a door chime either

Best Buy sold me a generic GM 1998+ harness along with the anntena adapter and dash kit. Can you give me a specific part # so i could exchange it? i dont think those guys know what they are talking about.

you CAN ditch the factory HU, the metra harness I had in my truck before my alpine died was basically a box with a speaker (for the chime) and it created the switched source for the HU as well, there was NO need for the factory HU. its available at circuit city around here. And I'm not bashing you 95, but the best buy around here (I'm assuming you work at a B.B.) is useless, they tried telling me that a HU install in my truck required extensive modification of the dash itself, and that if I didn't have them install it, my airbags would deploy as soon as I used the new radio, and that it was useless to buy a new deck and not replace the factory speakers as the new deck is so powerful it will distroy the factory speakers! I called his bluff on all the install stuff and walked out.

No problem. It seems like I have to fix other Bestbuy installs all of the time. Some are good and some are bad. Good luck

Well I finally got around to installing my deck (Kenwood KDC-MP628) with the module/harness I mentioned before, everything works fine, but the chime is LOUD. The instructions have a way to quiet the chimes, by cutting a jumper inside the module, but I tossed them so I guess I can deal w/it.

I'm just going to try the generic harness, my door chimes have never worked anyway

:werd: Good Choice.. its not worth the extra money for the chime and having a switch wire waiting there for you.. Just find your switched wire and you are ready to go..
