Okay, my cigarette lighter is not working. My 12v accesory port righ by it is working. There is no burned fuses, but they should be on the same fuse anyway. I removed the panel and checked the plug going to it and there is no voltage there. Any ideas? They both have orange and black wires going to them and I tried to trace the wires back to see where they went, but I dont not want to tear apart the console and dash to fix it, I may just splice a jumper between the 2. I am not sure when it stopped working or if I ever even tried it before. It is an 04 silverado.
I alos posted this in the Electronics section, but seieng as how this is a truck I was thinking somebody may have run into this.

 

I had mine go out and I was sure it wasn't a fuse but it ended up being one. Kinda hard to find in the fuse box in the engine bay. My guess would be yours is a fuse, the cig lighter and the 12v outlets are on seprate fuses.

Also when I replaced the fuse I put a stronger volt fuse could that mess it up? It works fine.

 

A higher rated fuse could allow the wiring to melt since it is allowing more current to pass without blowing...never a good idea to replace a fuse with a "bigger" one unless you upgrade the wiring in that circuit also.

 

Ok thanks, I don't know to much about electrics but I think it may have been a 20v and I put a 30 or 35 volt in it. It wasn't a huge jump. Thanks for the reply.

 

same thing happened to me, they are on different fuses, and the fuse is under the hood. I remember it not being marked for the cigarette lighter, you may want to check it out.

I know. I use it for my G-tech though. Is smoking rubber bad?

If you look in the owners manual, even the cheesy one that comes with the truck (not the big service manual) it will show you the exact fuse that it is. It is under the hood...in the lower right hand corner if I remember correctly. I popped mine too one time and didn't even know it until I went to use the Hypertech. The Hypertech wouldn't program and the Hypertech owner's guide said to check the cigarette lighter fuse??? You'll find it in the Trucks owners manual.

 

it could be the actual cigarette element is bad. try taking it out and using another one!!!

 

You mean higher amperage rating,not voltage. You're asking for disaster doing that,especially a 35 for a 20.
