It looks like Ford has decided to pull the plug on the Lightning until at least 2008.
I guess Dodge has the only honest hot-rod pickup now.

That's a shame. I really like those trucks.

DAMN IT....that sucks. I like those trucks. I've been contemplating buying a new one when I graduate and get some money. I guess it's not that bad though, because I don't want to see a Lightning that looks like the 04 F150. :barf:

I was never a fan of L's... but I think this model would have been the nicest yet.
There was a discussion about this in the Racers Lounge, I believe.... there was a fair amount of "proof"...

So they do make an 05??? Wow! I wasn't aware. I'll keep an eye for them. Do they have the gay ass M series heat extracters and all the fins too?

This could be a good thing for us. Now hat GM wont have to compete agents the L the market may be right for GM to finally get their heads out of their asses and put out a sport truck

Look at a new M3 front end......the similarity is amazing. Kind of a rip off, but then again not really, since it's a truck. It does look better than the regular F150.
I'm not so sure about the new body styles either. Some aspects look sweet, but others look as bad as our 03'+ chevy trucks.
The 98'-03' L's are awsome though.

I saw a pic of that new one a few months ago and thought that maybe ford was coming around with there styling. And was pretty excited to see them running around. But it's not a real big surpise to me that they are stopping production. The way I hear it from the local ford dealership is that sales on the lightings are down quite a bit. At least around here.

Just gives GM/Chevy more time to get off their ass and make the SS a better truck.

I said this a month or so ago in the lounge but I will say it again
Doesnt Suprise me the new f150s are so heavy. the 4 door f150 is like 5900 Ibs and the regular cab is 4690 IBs with the v6 so even heavier in a v8. http://autos.yahoo.com/newcars/ford...PfwjgssIF?p=ext
So the guys/gals at SVT would have to do ALOT of weight reduction to make it fast.
And on the appearance issue I think they look OK. At first I like it but the my Step dad bought a 04 4 door f-150. The more i see it the more I ride in it the more I am GLAD I am a die hard chevy fan. They made the inside look better than before but i think it is so UNcomfortable. The seats are so hard i feel like i am sitting on cender blocks. and I dont even wanna get started about the damn door jams. (in the way) Then they made the bed taller so not even a 6 foot man can reach over teh side and grab something out of the back, and in doing this they raise the bottom of the windows to give the truck a chopped top look. But instead it looks to me as if there is just 10 feet of metal before you get to the bottom of the glass.
All in all I hope this will get GM more interested in a real sport truck since ford wont be taking any of the customers.

I think SVT is going to have something nasty brewing. They can focus all their attention on the Muffstang, and I would expect it to be pretty damn nasty. Plus if they come out with the L in 08 like they say, I bet it will be awesome. Just because they're not producing it doesn't mean they're not playing with it at the proving grounds. Now they have time to tweak and refine it.

Man...I'm surprised some people haven't learned. GM wants US to mod the vehicles they they make (the ones worth it anyway). They don't have a good track record of hitting the mark. At least since the early early seventies on back. Either the price has been too high or the performance less than expected. It's the dam bean counters at GM I tell ya.

I don't know, I thought the Typhoon and Syclone were on the mark....Nice...but like the GN they were left dispite popularity. Been a long time and can't recall too well. Weren't they kinda pricey? mid 20's? Not sure.

Oh yeah people, I don't think it's a good sigh for any performance truck OR car to leave the market. It's what fuels the hp wars we love so much. It's the hp wars all over again. Enjoy it while it lasts and welcome the competition. Especially anything not import.

I'm the exact opposite...
Love the new (non existant?) ones. Old ones were too odd looking for me.
I also have a 03+ Chevy, so... ;)

No L, seems like a good time for GM to cash in. The future vehicle guide on gminsidenews says there’s a good chance for a 400hp LS2 powered Silverado SS reg cab, and the Trailblazer SS with an LS2 as well. I can see being very possible, as the drive train combination already exists in the SSR.
