It's almost time for these to start shipping! My HD is now running a preproduction version of the complete system. I installed it to check fitment and to see if any other tweeks are needed before the production versions start going out. Everything looks good! I just need to modify one bracket that bolts the scoop to the radiator support. This truck has a set of Flex-a-lite 290 fans so the one of those brackets is in the same location that I would use for this.

The shroud that you see when the hood is opened needs to be removed (about 7 plastic "pop screws"). The scoop draws air from behind the grill . It is sealed to the hood so air passed through it and then fed to the airbox.

 

It doesn't look sealed to the radiator support, and does it seal to the hood at all ???

as shallow as that thing looks I'd worry about it being able to flow enough to support a blown 8.1...maybe I'm wrong here

 

It mounts to the lip of the radiator support. My Flex-a-lite bracket is in the way here. That will be slid over enough to allow me to connect the K.C. bracket. I'll also be installing this system on my Suburban to see how it feeds a supercharged 8.1. It should move more air that the other system I'm using.

 

What about a setup for cowl induction hoods???

does it seal to the bare metal of the hood or the fire barrier?

 

is it me or does that foam barrier around the scoop look really cheap and amateur?

 

Will the removed shroud be reinstalled or left off? Looking at the install pic, won't the ram air pick up be in the same location as the stock trans cooler? What's the seat-of-the-pants dyno tell ya about this system?

That's what I thought it did from those pictures - sealed to the inside of the hood.

I'd be interested to hear about the water drainage system some more - how it works, where the drain is located, etc.

I wonder how good the seal is - if VR will offer a different ram air kit for the two hood styles. (unless the two hoods are near identical on the inside).

 

This system should work with some aftermarket hoods if they aren't to much higher in the front.

A batch of these systems should be heading out way by Friday or Monday.

I'll see if this will seal to the hood if there is no insulation installed.

Foam is foam when it comes to looks. VaraRam is using a commercial grade fire resistant foam.

I took the truck out for a 10 mile run last night. It is definately faster than it was with the other system I was using.

My system didn't have the water drainage (pre-production system). I'll have one of those soon.
