been looking for a D/A of my own since driving my old mans truck. he has an 03 D/A. i love it. there is locally in tampa, Fl a 2001 D/A 2 wd extended cab truck. exactly what i want. but it is a 2001 and am a bit weary of the injector storys on message boards like this. is this just an overreaction? the truck has 39K miles and is going for 23,900 which i think is a good deal. i will see it in person soon. here is the link.

are the injector problems THAT much worse than my family's 03? is this just the internet making a mountain out of a molehill? i tend ot believe what i read on message boards and not so much in shops. tell me what you think? i would end up selling it for a new truck in probably 3-4 years or 125K miles.

To be honest, I'd get a Cummins. They are far more dependable and reliable than either ford or chevy. There's one guy that's cranking over 600 hp here in town and he uses it to tow cattle without any problems at all. Sill knocks down around 13-15 towing. There's one guy who's got 423,500 miles on his 01 auto and he tows 20K pounds everyday of his life. Never had a problem. My mom's got a D/A and while it is a nice truck, it doesn't have the bottom end grunt and pull of a Cummins. And let's not even get started on the Ford's. If you have any other questions about it, drop me an email at bigbluedodge4x4@hotmail.com. I'm a diesel fanatic and can answer pretty much all of your questions. If you want to do some reading, go to www.gm-diesel.com or www.dieseltruckresource.com .

well if you have payed attention to the new common fuel rail cummins you wouldnt be braging about fuel milage. guys are getting a real world 12-14 mpg unloaded! that is a joke!
also, cummins with just mild boltons dont make near the power the duramax does. it isnt even close.

Well the motor is built by Isuzu...I read they've built more motors than any other diesel maker. Besides that, it's proven to be a badass motor.
Also... the motor+tranny have a 100K mi warranty. If you got ~40K mi now, you have ~60K more to go.

Gator, the new 600 engine is. The 555 engine is knockin down 20 or so. There are a couple of people with the 600 that are getting great mileage. I'd give it about a year and see what happens. A TST box on a cummins is good for about 120 to the wheels. Granted, you'll need a new turbo to harness all of the power, but oh well. You can also get an Edge and up it about 100 hp.
Hit man, the Cummins has been around FOREVER. It's never really changed. A few things here and there, but the overall design and build has been the same. The Cummins has proven itself. Don't get me wrong, the Dmax is a badss engine and it's got some awesome potential, but it's still a V-8 diesel and has to be revved really high to get power. The Cummins is designed to have the power down low where it's supposed to be in a diesel and where you need it most when you tow.
Snake Eater, the 1/4 mile is gonna happen this summer. Taking the vette, my truck, buddies ricer, and Jason's truck. Jason (the guy who owns the 4.3) keeps changing his mind on what he wants to do (build the 4.3, V8 swap, buy a junker). LOL. Oh well.
