Default 2nd vs 3rd gear pull ?

What is the difference between a 2nd gear versus a 3rd gear pull on the dyno. I know its best to get as close as possible to a 1-1 ratio, but I've noticed that 3rd gear pulls seem to yield higher #s.

3rd gear is a 1:1 ratio, so i would assume it would dyno correctly in 3rd

Some dyno's require you to dyno in 2nd gear for autos and 3rd for sticks. Just depends on how that dyno works.

My #s were 301 rwhp & 326 rwtq in 2nd. What would that equate to in 3rd.

I've seen several back to back 2nd gear versus 3rd gear pulls and 3rd gear pulls always gained 20 rwhp and something over 20+ rwtq.

Like I said though. Depends on the settins on the dyno. If it is set up for second gear pulls then going on another dyno and doing a 3rd gear pull wont make you gain more HP.

Most of the time, unless you have programming to raise your speed limiter, if you tried to dyno in 3rd, you'd only get to about 3000rpm before the truck shut down because of the speed cutoff.
